I played trumpet from 5th grade through most of college. I was even in jazz band for two years in high school and also most of college. I wasn't a music major but still held my own and for a while I was the best trumpet our university had. Jazz band really got me into jazz/swing and I just love some of the standards now. The best was playing different gigs for crowds (we would do wedding and even played yearly at a low-security prison).
I still have my trumpet and play it sometimes. I have thought of joining a community band, but I would really love to be back in a jazz band. Plus our music department even made a trip to Brazil that we played a bunch down there so that was really fun.
Glad to hear we have some talented musicians around here.

I started playing drums at the tender age of 5.Went thru the whole gamut of equipment Slingerland then Rogers & ended up playing a Yamaha set. During the 60's played in a rock band, then graduated to a 18 piece jazz and big band. Ended my career ina 6 piece wedding band. Still miss it,still keep in touch with a couple of members of the rock band. Have no idea where the rest of them disappeared to.
I got so mad at a girl who was texting while she was driving, that I rolled down my window and threw my beer at her
To cool guys! I love jazz! Probably my favorite music of everything, I play with a small combo band with my old teacher whenever I can. I agree on audiences, always fun playing for different people! Originally I wanted to try and be a studio musician but decided I didnt want to make it a career and start making it hard work. We should put together a MOL swing band
My grandfather actually when he was still flying for airlines had a beer with Count Basie! Thought that was pretty cool Id love to try out for my schools jazz bands also but its some stiff competition being at a mainly music school and all hahaha
My mother's side of the family used to have a jamboree of sorts years ago. Kind of like a southern hillbilly band, or bluegrass type of sound. As for the immediate family, my younger brother plays the electric guitar, and my older brother has a singing voice.
My wife is multi-talented.
She plays the piano and sings high soprano in church.
I have a very good ear for music, but I never tried to play any instruments.
Nice to hear. One thing I love about jazz is the personalities in it. When we were playing Groovin' Hard, a Buddy Rich tune we talked about how Buddy Rich was kind of a mean guy and while playing the drums he would literally yell at his band members.
I have heard that Benny Goodman was sort of the same way. One of his sax players had a favorite reed they used and sounded great on and one day Goodman asked to see and and either never gave it back or broke it, I don't remember which.
Granted not all musicians are mean, but some certainly were. I also love hearing some rat pack stuff live and how they joked on stage and stuff. just great music and a show as well.

Haha thats so funny I remember my old band teacher teling us the same thing about those guys before! I cant remember which band leader it was (couldve been Benny), but he told us at one time there was a recording a band member took of him chewing out the band on a bus.
Also heard there was some band leader who kicked out a member (trombone?) at the border somewhere Definitely some crazy guys! I love the rat pack also! One of my favorite groups, actually got a poster of them up in my room haha.
