oh ic. well im gonna try to get rid most of the swirls. ill try to take some before and after pics. gonna start detailing in 30 mins.

                  Hi Zey!

After reading about the tools you have, I went to the store to look for an orbital, and the only one they have is the Bosch GEX 270AE. Apparently my wife knew what I was looking for, and guess what? I got it for my birthday! (early b'day present)

Anyways, I'm really excited to have one, but now I'm baffled as to where I can find the pads! The shop that sells Meguiar products here only got the W8000, and nothing else.

I was wondering, what kind of pads do you use? Is it easier to get in KL? Right now, the only one I got is the Bosch foam pad (as a bonus), and I don't even know what type is it for (it seems soft enough to polish with - the store had no idea either)

Oh, one more thing. Is it okay to use the DC#1 with an orbital? (that is, IF I can find the pads )

                  Many thanks!

Hey furball! Thanks for reading this post. Congratulations and happy belated birthday. I would suggest you to get the W-8006 (6.5") instead of W-8000 for DA machine. It's easily available in KL from the distributor, Hypercoat. Neither do I have the knowledge on the Bosch foam pad as I won't bother to use one of these. Lastly, you can use DA machine to apply DCS1, your hands will be happy.

                    • Weather had been quite bad lately and yesterday was the worst. After a thorough wash I proceed with clay on the bonnet. Unfortunately, I guess the clay picked up some dirt and it scratched the surface. Without waiting any further, I pulled out the rotary buffer and applied M80 with W-8006. Within seconds, those scratches are gone but some paint defects were still there. By going more aggressive, I applied M83 with W-8006 for a few passes and most of the paint defects were gone. To remove some buffer swirls, I applied M80 with W-8006 using a DA, 90% were gone. To make the finish clearer, I applied M82 with W-9006. Lastly, I topped it up with M21 using DA. Left for 20 minutes, I buffed away with UW. It took me about 3 hours just on the bonnet. However, this is just a practice session and I spend alot of time to observe the finish after each pass of product.

What you all are seeing here is called solvent pop... This happens when the solvent is trying to escape from under the clear and the top has skimmed over... If there is enough clear on the car you can sand down and buff it out, if not you can sand very close to the base and apply 3 more coats of clear, cut with 1000 to get flat then 2000 and buff as usual.... Sorry to be the bearer of bad news

                        • BondoKing, I noticed my dad's 2 months old Accord starts to show up tiny pimples/bubbles on the boot/roof last week. It wasn't there from the first day of ownership. By using a magnifying glass to observe, the defect looks like tiny bubbles at the top most layer of the clearcoat. Here is a photo of it, I'm sorry that it's abit out of focused. I suspect, like what you said, solvent popping is happening. More than 50% of the Honda cars over here suffer from this problem.

                          • Zey you should not be having pop issue's with factory paint IMO... It is common in the after market arena be it collision repair or custom work... Easily fixable just a pita... Can you get a clearer photo of what is on your dads ride?? I would like to see what it is

                            • BondoKing, the local car manufacturers (such as Honda) in my country produce very low quality paintwork. At the beginning, I wouldn't believe factory paintwork will face such problem until I talked to the industry experts. Cost is one of the main factor which determines how good the paintwork can turn out. Local car manufacturers choose poor quality reducer/thinner/clearcoat to save lots of money on painting. Besides that, the spraying environment contains alot of moisture. Also for fast production, there is no enough flash off time in between topcoats. I'll try to snap better pics to show the bubbles on the clearcoat.
