Yeah the media really is blowing the completely out of proportion. The media has been looking for a way to attack a company based outside America for some time. By ruining Toyota (Best car company) they are hoping to increase sales of Ford, GM, Chrysler, etc.

It is disappointing to see such talk after only so few cases, most caused by aftermarket floor mats, but I hope this doesn't stop people from buying a Toyota in the future.

Toyota didn't have to recall millions of vehicles because of a few cases, they are doing it to show their passion and care for their customers. At least the current owners will actually benefit from getting the replacement, knowing that there vehicle won't die out in the next year or two.

Yep, leave it to the media to show one side of any situation.

Are you in any way affiliated with toyota? I don't see them spending millions of $$$$, shutting down four? plants while stopping the production of eight models just to "please" toyota owners and try to pull a "dog and pony show" for the general public.
There's no reason to become alarmed, and we hope you'll enjoy the rest of your flight. By the way, is there anyone on board who knows how to fly a plane?

That's the funniest thing I've read in a very long time.

Add insult to injury, I just heard on the radio Toyota issued another worldwide recall due to faulty steering issues.

              When it rains it pours.

I saw today the Corolla was now being recalled for a steering issue, the 2010 Camary's for leaking brake fluid, and at least the Prius now has a fix. Which I thought was funny that the Ford Fusion also had a brake problem, which I believe only affected the Hybrid's. It might have have been the same company doing the programming for Ford and Toyota. And Chrysler and Jeep also have a big brake recall out now, Honda has a problem with the Fits, the F-150 has an airbag problem. The reason why Toyota is getting blasted is because of their image has been almost spotless until now and the severity of how many cars and models it effects. A couple models, not a huge deal, but when you're pulling 8 models and closing plants, that's a huge deal.

EDIT* Forgot to mention that KBB is dropping trade in values by 3% and Edmunds.com is saying values could drop as muchas 10% before it's all said and done.

This couldn't be better timing for Hyundai. The new 2011 Sonata is hitting the dealers right now and for the price you get more than you would from the Accord or Camry. I am a Honda fan, but things change (some worse, some better) over time and Hyundai has really impressed me (forget about their old image, they have re-invented themselves). For the price (starts under $20,000 and you are getting more standard features for your money), and new exterior design (looks better than both the formentioned) and warranty/reliability (100,000 miles and if they weren't confident about it, they would be broke) it has the edge over both of them. I saw this commercial and thought it was pretty cool.

That new sonata does look sweet too!

                          Re: How bout them Toyotas!

Btw.. not to discredit both Honda and Toyota (my family has had both and they've been good to us), they just need to be aware that the competition is fierce, and that they (or anyone for that matter) should not take Hyundai lightly. In these hard economic times.. every dollar and penny counts for both the customer and automaker.

As an automotive journalist (ie "the media") I personally take offense to that suggestion, but I won't be arguing the point here as we don't do that on MOL.

Going to go ahead and lock this thread because it is going to turn into a political conspiracy theory argument at some point.
