it usually is.. glad your willing to say so lol

higher octane provides more resistance to detonation, it burns slower. but if your car is made to run on 87 it should run no better on 93, assuming there are no underlying issues

its kinda like mods you do to your car that mostly change the sound of the engine. if the car sounds faster it can give the illusion that it is. but it reality it may be just the same, just slightly faster.. or even god forbid.. slower .. LOL

I have experienced this first hand and will be willing to admit. on my turbocharged car it was sounding AWESOME when the wastegate was open. I upped to boost some and the wastegate started closing. the car wasnt NEARLY as loud and sounded slower, but theres no way it was slower because of the increase in boost. it messed with my head BAD

I know that isnt the exact comparison just thought I'd throw that out there

I usually go to Hess - I REFUSE to finance Exxon/Mobil, and the Hess station is usually about $0.10-$0.30 a gallon cheaper than them anyway. I used to go to the Irving/Blue Canoe because they were the cheapest, but now Irving is Circle K and they're a bunch of overcharging buttheads.

My Porsche gets 93 octane, the 300C gets 89 or 93 depending on price.

I just go to our ethanol station,
dont really know what brand it is...

all i know is 10% ethanol and 89 octane
and costs the same as 87 octane at other stations
        so hey, why not

i was first using mobil 1 premium thinking there oil is good so there gas should be good to, then i heard about top tier gas and they werent on the list so i switched to shell v power cause that was the only station on the list near me and that car seems to have a little more pep to it or it all could be in my head, and if it is just in my head at least now i am using the gas with more cleaning agents in it.

As mentioned, there are only a few refineries and all stations in the same area obtain their gas from the same refinery. The difference is only the additives placed in the gas. What stations _won't_ tell you is what they add to the gas. So there is no way to know which gas is better then the next.
I don't have the leaflet. Probably if you go to Shell's official site, there might be some data. I read from this leaflet on using Shell V-Power which at the time was 99 RON and is now 100 RON,that the amount of detergent is higher. Also I've read magazine articles about this. I don't think anyone here can claim to know for sure. You either believe it or you don't.
Same applies to supermarket gas. I believe it's inferior and nobody will change my opinion. Which part of it is inferior,I don't know. But I know plenty people from the UK and here who used it once and said their car's didn't perform properly after, and went back to using station gas.

            That's why I said...Just my 2 cents worth.

As mentioned earlier...Find something you like and use it.

I've used Shell since I had my high compression Mustang. I think it's a better gas product. But I'm starting to shy away form Shell becasue I've heard things about the new VPower nitrogen stuff not being nice to some fuel systems.

I hate station specific cards that can't be used like a regular Visa or MasterCard. My wife has one which is good for local use but it ***** once we leave our area. With my luck, the station I'd have a card for would be at the exit after I fill up.

I use a Chase Visa that pays 5% on gas, groceries, and drug store purchases and 1% on everything else. You can use your points for merchandise, giftcards, or good old cash. $1000 spent on gas = $50 cash back. I'm typically good for $200-$250 a year in rewards on gas alone in a year.

As my car is 40 years old it should use leaded 4 or 5 star fuel. I use Shell V-Power (99 RON) as it gives the car a smoother ride and more torque. I also add Castrol Valvemaster to the fuel to make up for the lack of lead.

Owner's manual says 93, so that's what I do. Dealer said that using lower octane fuel over time will cause issues with the fuel system, including the oxygen sensor.

Gotta use at least 91 octane for the hi-pro tune, not brand specific, but never the the brand X.

When we're at home we always get Costco gas because it's cheapest and we get 5% back with American Express. If we're on a road trip its whatever is closest to the exit on the freeway.

And my dad works in the oil/gas business and he says gas is gas, there's not too much to it.

Now that I'm back living in Canada, I'm noticing (and maybe I'm wrong so please correct me if I am) that in Canada, other than Sunoco, you are more limited in your Octane choices.

Sunoco offers "Ultra 94" (94 Octane), but other than that, I think all the major distributors (Shell, Petro Canada, Esso) all have 87, 89 and 91 only, whereas in the US, most offer 93, right?

In any event, I only buy Shell 91 because I get airmiles and in Toronto, there is definitely some price fixing going on. I find it impossible to find stations with different prices, unless it is some tiny obscure station. As such, the price difference usually doesn't warrant switching. 91 for mine, 87 for wifey's CR-V.

I use hi-test in my S2000, regular in my wife's CR-V. Why? Because that's what the manual says to do, and I ain't going to experiment.
