O don't really stick to a particular "brand" of gas. Usually do Costco or 76. SHell and Chevron seem to be on the high side as far as price.

I do however use 91 premium as it is what the owners manual in my BMW says to use.

And of course just plain old oily diesel #2 for the Dodge 3500 Cummins......

I only buy gas from top Tier suppliers of gasoline. My car smells of rotten eggs (sulfur) if I burn cheap gas so I just don't do it. And yes, my car is in proper tune.

Ultra low sulfur diesel for my new VW Jetta Sportswagon TDI. Averaging 40.7 MPG but that includes lots of long trips.

From what I understand, gasoline is refined by only a handful of national suppliers who have a strict specifications and guidelines to which they must adhere. Small or private distributors buy their gasoline from wholesale refiners such as Arco, Shell, 76, etc, so there should be little variance in the "quality" of gasoline sold anywhere in the United States.

But if you are talking about what grade of gasoline I use, then I use an 87 octane because that's all I need for my car (inline 4 Honda Accord). I think a lot of drivers make the mistake of tinking that using a higher octane boosts the performance of their car regardless of what they pack under the hood.

But your engine must be tuned to require a higher octane, necessitating its' use, and the real difference is how badly a high performance engine will perform if a lower octane gasoline is used as opposed to the other way around.

There are arguments that using higher octane fuel would result in engine damage and combustion chamber carbon build-up. Though the theories behind those claims do sound plausibile, nobody has ever reported engine failure or premature wear due to using higher octane petro.

Even if the motor and engine management system do not require high octane petrol, certain emission output (such as NOx, among others) tends to decrease with the increase in octane of the gas being used. That is almost always the case.

Any given petroleum engine is capable of running on any type octane rating. What dictates the octane requirement of an engine is its computer software.

I won't get into it too much but thinking TTG is better the other gas is like beliving the commercials you see on TV as fact. Truth is, there is absolutely no indication (0%, none) that any other gas is not as good or better then TTG). TTG does not compare gasolines... it only places certain requirements on those companies that _choose_ to join.

I'm guessing a few other people have the same vehicle as you do yet I'm betting few, if any, have the same complaints. So I'd venture to say it's something unique to your vehicle that is causing this.

Here is my take... buy what is convenient. Most stations are priced within a few cents of each other. Do the math and you will find you might spend an extra $.50/month even if you pay the higher price. Add a quality cleaning additive, such as Techron, as directed (every 3000) miles. That way you know exactly what your getting.

When I've got the money, I put premium gas in my car; when I don't I just put in regular 87 octane. My car runs fine on both. I feel like it runs better on 93 octane, but that may just be in my head.

Going through about 7 gallons a day, I usually get whatever is cheapest.

Thorntons or Speedway near my house. Mobil or Shell when I need to fill near my office but 20-30 cents a gallon higher than Thorntons and Speedway.

I use Shell or BP. They advertise that they have more cleaners in them . If a gasoline company doesent advertise its cleaners then I assume they dont put much cleaner in there gas. I read that Chevron and Texico have the best additive package in them , but you cant get these gasolines in my area. If you use gasoline with a balanced additive package in them you never have to use a extra additive, and your fuel injectors will last almost forever.

I use Shell V-power (my cars require premium). Although it's hard to believe, I have been able to document 5-7% better mileage on the V-power versus other brands, over an extended period of time. The new "Nitrogen" stuff is no different from the old formula. Don't know why scientifically, but it works.

                          YMMV.

                            shell v-power! 11.0 : 1 compression engine = premium

I'm with you guys on the Shell. I was buying BP for a while, but I will get slightly better milage (I track every fill up on a spreadsheet to calculate my MPGs).

I say at least stick with the name brands. I mean why chance it with a lower priced gas and pay for it later.
