Re: Are you concerned about the Swine Flu?

My bride [22 years married Friday!] is an occupational health nurse for a major international company so I get tons of updates here at home from the CDC. We are at a level 4 right now and it looks like it may be level 5 by Friday? Then it goes to level 6 which is the top of the levels. Not good and spreading around very quickly.

Her company has stopped all travel on airplanes [CEO mandate] but car travel is OK today. The health of their employees is first and foremost and they just will not take the chance and then you have liability issues. Certainly this will hurt sales and marketing efforts but again swine flu is not something to be taken lightly.

Yes, I am concerned. Paranoid – no, not until they declare a level 6. At level 5 I will have my mask on and hand cleaning gel in my pocket.

If we get to level 5 or heaven forbid level 6, panic will set in especially with the media hype. Airlines are already preparing for no air traffic.

What is the big deal? This is from the CDC dated 7-16-08.

How many people get sick or die from the flu every year?

Each flu season is unique, but it is estimated that, on average, approximately 5% to 20% of U.S. residents get the flu, and more than 200,000 persons are hospitalized for flu-related complications each year. About 36,000 Americans die on average per year from the complications of flu.

Thanks for the link harshest.....just goes to show how the media will hype anything for a story/ratings. Remember the bird flu scare in 2007....never happened. Luckily I just had the flu a couple months ago.....nice to know that I have some natural resistence to the Oinky flu!

Of course the media wants everybody to run around scared like chickens with their heads cut off. That way the government has more control over the populace. But do you know what happens to the person who always sticks his head in the sand every time he hears something bad? He loses, and never learns to get ahead or face his fears. It's just stupid! Just say to yourself, "I'm not going to let the media hype and the government bullcrap get to me" and get on with your life! People get so hung up on what the media has to say (whether it's true or not) that they can't focus on anything else. Be discerning. Accept the truth, disprove the lies, and life goes on. Watch this little animation race between an ostrich and a penguin. The penguin is like the guy who doesn't let anything get to him. The ostrich is like the guy who thinks he knows it all but lets the stupidest things get to him. When he finally realizes what an idiot he was, it's too late.

Yes you should be worried. Keep your hands CLEAN and try to avoid being around others that are sick.
