Re: Are you concerned about the Swine Flu?

Interesting split in the voting. I am a little concerned though. Somehow it seems like all the cases reported in the US have been mild as oppossed to the ones in Mexico where deaths have occurred.

BTW, according to the CDC you can't get the disease from eating properly cooked pork.

Sometimes when these things happen I always think conspiracy theory.
Maybe someone is trying to test a new chemical weapon an dropped a few bugs in Mexico to see how it would spread.

LOL!! We do have old quarries up here, one even has an airplane in it! But I doubt that would be a good substitute to Mexico. Good luck though!

And you also can't get it from eating improperly cooked pork! It's tramsmitted just like any flu bug....through droplets from the lungs that get deposited on surfaces when people cough and then you touch that surface..... or by inhaling those droplets from someone who is infected who is coughing.

                      EAT YOUR PORK!

HAHAHAHA!!!! There are "pickup" buggies here that have diamond plate beds. The Amish aren't as technology deficient as people might think!

SVT your right, you can't get it by eating pork. only if your in contact with infected pigs or infected humans.

DES MOINES, Iowa – Like the virus itself, the name "swine flu" is spreading quickly. For the pork purveyors and hog farmers who make up the nation's $15 billion pork industry, that's a disaster.

It doesn't seem to matter that the strain may not come entirely from pigs and cannot be spread by eating pork. Hog prices are already dropping as financial markets worry people will have second thoughts about buying "the other white meat."

"It's killing our markets," said Francis Gilmore, 72, who runs a 600-hog operation in Perry, outside Des Moines, and worries his small business could be ruined by the crisis. "Where they got the name, I just don't know."

The swine flu strain that is spreading is a never-before-seen hybrid of human, swine and bird influenza but is widely known as swine flu.

I'm going to eat pork tomorrow even though I rarely eat pork (nothing against it, I just eat more chicken and beef) just to prove how tough I am
