The numbers I quoted were for a Shelby GT vs a BMW 335 - I doubt you can haggle too much on the Shelby GT which priced out just $2000 below the 335i.
Again, the HP and fuel economy numbers were just for comparison. Assuming Ford drops a turbo V6 in the Mustang, or if they got smart and dropped a turbo diesel in the Mustang, then the sell prices would be even closer and the cost differential would favor the turbo V6 more, and it would favor the turbo diesel more still. Bottom line - you can equal or exceed the performance of a V8 and get far better fuel economy at the same time. It should be a win/win proposition.
