I read in motor trend that it is just a rumor stating that Ford is thinking on taking the v-8 out of the mustang and replace it with a v-6 twin turbo. That is what the magazine is rumor stating. I think it was in the motor trend.

Re: Rumor that I have read on the new mustang
I read that as well. They are doing a Twin-Turbo V6 in order to meet the new MPG requirements. I read that is it for the 2010 Mustang though not the 09. They are still talking about keeping the V8 in the line up but bumping it up to the 5.0L.
I can't wait to see what they end up doing!!

Re: Rumor that I have read on the new mustang
if i'm not mistaken, ford has plans to do that with alot of different vehicles. Not neccesarily take the v8 out of the line-up but introduce twin-turbo v6's into all the line-ups so you get better fuel milage AND better power. I think one of the lincoln vehicles (maybe the MKX or the new MKW) has a variance of the motor in it.

Re: Rumor that I have read on the new mustang
Yeah my dad said to me we need to buy all new cars before the 2009 year. I think they are trying to bring back the Mustang SVO again. I read that the SVO was a good car but was brought out at the wrong time. After I grad from High school I am thinking of trading my mustang in to get a used 2005 mustang in black.Alex

Re: Rumor that I have read on the new mustang
Have you seen the 2012 Mustang? It looks like a Giagaro. I don't like the new concepts. I think ford should go to a 1970 fastback style instead. I just also took a trip to a UTI school and all I can say is WOW They had a 1992 Mustang that was a 9 sec quarter mile on a bottle. 347 stroker (720 HP). It was really loud but sounded completely awesome. The school was nice and clean very clean. It is expensive though. 36,000 dollars to go to their school.Alex

Re: Rumor that I have read on the new mustang
If they bring the 5.0L V-8 into the 2009 Mustang, I know my new graduation present!! I mean 5.0L in a car....amazing. Our F-150 has a 5.4L and is pretty darn fast (has some mods) and is about 1,500lbs more than the Mustang. The new Camaro looks amazing and is going to be F-A-S-T!!! Ford is going to have to do the 5.0L to even have a comparable car to Chevy. The legendary Camaro name and 1969 looks with the amazing 6.0L LS2 with 400HP is going to blow Ford out of the water if they don't act fast.
I don't know about you guys, but I reckon that 2009 is going to be one of the best new car years in a long time. Think about it, new Camaro, new Challenger (hopefully), maybe a 5.0L Mustang, new F-150, new Ram (going to be horrible, no offense), Cadillac CTS-V (going to be a beast), Corvette ZR1 (600HP) and many others.
We'll have to wait and see!!Attack life, it's going to kill you anyway.

Re: Rumor that I have read on the new mustang
Just as an example of a current Ford V8, specifically the 2007 Ford Shelby GT, compared to a current V6 Turbo, in this case the 2007 BMW 335i:
Both make right around 300HP and 300lb-ft of torque (technically the Ford produces more power than the BMW) but 0-60 the BMW is a tenth faster and they are a dead heat in the 1/4 mile with equal trap speeds. Basically they're close enough to just call it even.
EPA mileage estimates tell a very different story: The Ford is rated 16mpg city/23mpg highway, the BMW 19 and 28 respectively. That's quite a difference.
For the record, the BMW weighs 22lbs more than the Ford and costs about $2500 more. It's amazing how close these cars are on paper in all but fuel economy, but when the new CAFE Regulations come into play it's easy to see why Ford is seriously considering making this move.
If you want to get really crazy, consider that BMW offers a diesel version of the 3 Series in Europe that produces 228HP but a whopping 369lb-ft of torque, is nearly as fast, but is rated 23mpg city/33mpg highway. Well, OK, that isn't really crazy at all...... consider this: Audi has a v-12 diesel on tap for their new A8 Supercar that will make some 500HP and well in excess of 700lb-ft of torque!!! It's based on the diesel engine that has powered Audi to overall wins at the 24 Hours of LeMans the last two years. Yes folks, a championship winning, prototype sports car powered by a diesel engine. And it is beyond fast.

But nit picking specs isn't the point - the point is you can not only get performance from a turbo V6 equal to a naturally aspirated V8 (which was the original point of this thread) but that you can also achieve similar results with a turbodiesel, and get far better fuel economy in the process.Michael Stoops

Indeed, it costs $58.35 to put 15 gallons of fuel into the BMW and only $47.55 to put a similar amount into the Mustang, but you'd go an additional 150 miles on that fuel with the BMW. Extrapolate that over 10,000 miles per year and the better mileage/higher priced fuel keeps $200 in your pocket.Michael Stoops
