Re: trouble fitting in my car!!!!!!!!!

Whoa y'all!! Is this what happens when Mike is gone? Lilblkblt04, frankly you just went down a lot in my rating of you. You probably don't care, but you had come across as respectful, sensible, and nice. I enjoyed seeing your posts of you doing your familys cars. Probably all of us have went through a time when we posted a lot of questions, maybe silly ones, maybe good ones, on a forum. Does that mean we should be rude to others? In the forum rules it says no bashing people. This thread has come the closest to bashing I have ever seen on MOL. I liked MOL because there wasn't any cursing, rude behavior, or bashing. Is this all going to change now that Mike is gone? Perhaps this thread should have been stopped a while ago. It took a turn for the worse in the first few pages.

What is this forum for beside asking questions? A lot of people ask questions that have been answered MANY times. If you don't want to answer questions, don't!

When I saw this thread, I thought it was kind of silly (JMO) so I didn't reply to it. How easy is that?

Re: trouble fitting in my car!!!!!!!!!

          Lydia,

In all fairness, the guy's asking for advice and he rejects it. He doesn't have any experience with proper seating positions so he reads up on the subject. He tries out the new position and thinks it is uncomfortable. His photos clearly show his seated position is about right.

I think he is looking for a laid back position that wll put him closer to the wheel without moving the seat forward. THAT'S NOT GOING TO HAPPEN UNLESS YOU ARE IN A FORMULA CAR.

I was the only one to post a viable alternate. A wheel grip that allows you to move the seat back further while still keeping your arms bent. He dismissed it; his vast experience allowing him to do so!

I suggest he contacts Mr. Balboni and arrange a drive before suggesting the lower steering wheel grip doesn't work:

          Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A.
Headquarters - Production, Research & Development Centre
          Via Modena, 12
          40019 Sant' Agata
          Bolognese (BO) - ITALY

          Tel. +39 (051) 68.17.611

He should bring a change of underwear as factory cars bearing PROVA or "test" license plates are virtually exempt from all speed limits and Balboni will have him crying for his mommy 100 yards from the factory gates.

That's a good point, STG. I still don't think lilblkblt04's response was warranted, though. JMO.

Re: trouble fitting in my car!!!!!!!!!

stg, in all fairness i did state very good reason why that position does not work for me, i tried i didnt find it affective, i timed myself, the numbers dont lie. like i said the Lamborghini's steering is probably more sensitive then my car. Like i said it takes more turns from my wheel then the Lamborghini's (i would imagine) so it might work perfectly fine in his car but not in mine, and i really appreciate the tip, i found it very interesting as i always love to learn more about racing. please refer to my previous post as i believe it has some viable points. As far as crying, i dont think so(lol), im sure he could tear the track up better then me even with one arm and after 10 beers, but i have done some crazy (stupid) things myself, thank you again for your tip.

Re: trouble fitting in my car!!!!!!!!!

I think asking for advice on a physical subject over the internet is like asking your mechanic to remove your alternator over the phone. You sound like a good guy with a lot of excitement about a nice vehicle, interest in performance driving, and willingness to learn. I would suggest you look into taking a professional performance driving course. Here are a few:
Skip Barber is the premiere race car driving school for all racing and driving programs. If you are interested in learning how to race, contact us today for our exclusive programs.

I'm about the same height you are (looks like I have about 50 lbs. on you though), and have the same problem with not seeing stop lights. When I'm in a "performance" seating position, I have to duck down to see lights. When I'm in a more casual driving position I can just see them. I use my memory seats to keep 2 settings. You could also try this on your windshield to see the lights from your higher seating position:
Patented windshield mounted lens for assisting drivers in seeing traffic lights out of their normal view. Optical quality, inexpensive, flexible, easily transferable between vehicles.

Tank you very much, you summed me up about right. I have been interested in some courses at infenion raceway, i was also thinking about skipbarber. I prefer auto crossing and GT, and time attacks. I have been trying to find a local race track that i can go to on the weekends but so far i havent found any. Also i totally now what your going through with the stop lights, is is probably the most annoying thing i have to do while im driving, im finaly discovering being tall is not allways agood thing.

Re: trouble fitting in my car!!!!!!!!!

Is Atherton in northern CA or southern CA? If its northern (or you're willing to take a trip), I HIGHLY recommend the Skip Barber performance driving course at Laguna Seca near Monterey. Its a fabulous, challenging track and the instructors were great. And when you're willing to drive something besides a Bimmer, let me know. I'll give a you list of some of the top performing cars on the market, I've beaten most of them.

Fast sedan, im actually not very far at all from where you are based. I was thinking of taking a 3 day course at skip, but the thing is that you need to know manual, i think. Right now i dont, i love smg, but unfortualy my bimmer has steptronic.
