Yeah why do they sit so close to the wheel anyway? I'm always amused when I see how crammed in the Nascar drivers are. Back in the day we used to race semi reclined positioned such that our arms where slightly bent, when holding the wheel. To this day I still sit far back from the wheel adjusted so my legs and arms are slightly bent. I find it gives me the best control and comfort.

Speaking of not fitting... when Triumph was selling the TR6 in the US I really wanted one, I thought they where the hottest looking roadster on the road, still do actually. I went to the dealer, got in one, then couldn't get out! Took a couple of salemen to help me extracate myself... needless to say, I didn't buy the car.

I can't believe I'm reading this thread. I say this after I drove my 6'5" 280 pound butt home from CarQuest today in my 2006 Nissan SENTRA!!

Aren't you the guy who posted the GC liquid/paste Nxt liquid/paste poll?

Sounds like you need to adopt the classic Italian driving position. Instead of holding the wheel at 9 and 3, hold it at 8 and 4. This brings the grip closer to you and allows you to recline the seat more.

The correct wheel technique with this grip is to shuffle the wheel from one hand to the other.

Before you say this is wrong, this is how Valantino Balboni drives. Look him up before you say "Who?"

By the way, there is nothing wrong with your driving position. You just feel cramped becaused you are evidently used to the low-rider 50-Cent laid back position.

Either you have control and are closer to the wheel, or you are laid back and too cool for the room. YOU CAN'T HAVE BOTH.

Like, how does sitting more upright affect leg room?

well the thing is, i like sitting up more then laid back, i personally dont like the shuffle technique, i use hand over hand, i find i can correct for over steer quicker, and i can turn faster. However, that is an interesting hand grip.

Haha, ironic that your screename is "Thejoyofdriving" when you can't even fit in your car. Just jokin' around.

Anyway, you don't look to be amazingly tall so I don't know why you have problems. That looks like a mannequin in those pics.

                            I have your solution though....

                            Just buy a Cadillac.

Now, you're probably saying, "I wan't a fast car." Get the STS-V, if you can get that BMW you can dish out the money for the STS_V haha. Oh, and take pics!!

Detailing cars is a form of art. Most appreciate it, few possess the required skill and even fewer understand it.

I'm going to go out on a limb here .....

                                IS THIS YOUR FIRST CAR????

You ask about seating position in a car known to accomodate tall/big drivers.

You post a survey and collect votes prior to selecting a wax.

You evidently bought your BMW and drove around for a while before reading about seating positions and THEN decide you don't fit.

You would prefer sitting in a more reclinedposition, and you would like your legs to be straighter, yet you dismiss to only viable alternative: the Italian wheel grip. If it's good enough for Lamborgini's chief test driver, it's good enough for you.

I'll bet you don't fit in ANY car, because you have some crazy idea about how you should fit.
