So I've spent what-is-a-fortune-to-me on Meguiar's products hoping that I can remove the swirls from my car and make it shine like the rest I see on this forum, but that didn't really workout. Big disappointment. Maybe having the whole car shake when I'm applying UC is not enough pressure, or maybe my car is just a degenerate that cannot have its swirls removed. Whatever. All the stuff is for sale.

Dude! Don't give up! Finally getting your car to shine is very rewarding. Quitting on it is not, as you already are feeling. I know you can get the help and advice you need here to get 'er done!

I am by far no expert, but PM me if you want, tell me what you did and I'll either help you figure it out or find the solution for you.

Please don't quit! Quitters are not allowed on MOL . As I told you, it could just be that your car has a very hard clearcoat. Mine does, and I haven't accomplished much by hand. But I'm not giving up. I'm holding out for a G110, and I think that's what you should do too. Save your money and buy a G110. I know that if I just wait, it will be well worth it. You're throwing in the towel too early. Just hang in there and let us help you out! You've still got a great shine to your car! I know you want to make it better, well so do I. Look, this is what my car looks like without any paint correction.

I feel like having a G110 may not help... First I just washed and waxed. Then I was told that claying will help. Got the clay - same result. Then people said SwirlX will help. Got SwirlX - no difference. Then people said UC will help. Got UC - no difference....

Some paint is hard to work with. That doesn't mean you shouldn't work with it. Just hold out for now. That's why MOL is here!

Oh...when you said the whole car was shaking when you were doing the UC I figured you were using a machine...u'll never get swirls out of that GM clear by hand (well, I haven't used UC yet...conventional wisdom is you need a machine for that, and it still will be a lot of work). Perhaps G110/M105 would make quick work of it.

Another option is to find a local detailer to take the swirls out for you and then just maintain it. There are several pros in the area and also some weekend warriors.

Do not quit. Sometimes it takes a while to dial in the correct prescription to do the paint correction. PM me and maybe we can figure something out. I am not a expert, but maybe in my experiences I can pass along some info that may help you out.

You already have the products, a DA will do it for you so that and a couple pads are all you're missing. Then you'll have an accomplishment to look at, remember and brag about!

If you're shaking the car you're rubbing too hard. More passes with medium pressure, but if it's that hard, get a DA. Look on craigslist or somewhere or find one you can borrow or someone that has one to show you that it will work and get your own. Or, have someone detail it for you. Numerous options.

I agree with all the above comments. If there is just no way you can do it then do have someone detail it for you at least just polish out the paint to remove any swirls and bring back a shine. From that point on you can than maintain it. Everyone here has alot of great tips that you will pick up along the way. So don't give up.

When I first got my car I knew NOTHING about detailing. I didn't even know how to wash a car. My car came complete with a cracked, sun-damaged landau top that was caked in oxidation, heavily oxidized paint, badly repainted front fender and alligatoring on my hood. I washed my car twice the wrong way and then got interested in what I needed to know to make my car look nice.

Fast forward a few months and here I am, I still have to get my fender, hood and nose repainted but take a look at the pics in my thread. My car has shine to it and reflectivity (and beautiful new top) thanks to Meg's and their woderful products. This kind of stuff takes time, I'm still only ~50% done with my car.

Don't give up yet; get a G110 (I plan to this summer), get your hands on some M105+205 and see what can be done. Find a professional detailer (NOT A HACK) and just maintain it. Don't throw in the towel on your car's finish, its a GM.

I am reminded of Tom Hanks's words in A League of Their Own: "Of course baseball is hard, that's what makes it great. If it was easy everybody would do it."

I think it would make great sense for you to retain the services of a good professional detailer to remove your swirls and create a showcar finish. You could then assume the on-going responsibility for maintenance, which would require you to keep most of the products you have already bought. After all, you are still going to want to wash and wax your car, right, and keep the interior looking sharp. So find a real pro and get the car looking great, and then maintain your car on a regular basis. Doesn't that make sense?
