Doing the same thing on a clear coat finish will also remove some of the clear (which is really just paint without pigment added), and that will also be present on your pad. But, since it's clear, you can't see it.

Is it really single stage? If not, I have a question (to anyone that wants to answer).
If a car is oxidized, and you detail it and remove the oxidation, does the oxidation color rub off on your pad like single stage paint does?
For example, if I were to remove oxidation from a CLEARCOATED blue car, would the oxidation come off on my pad blue ?? (like single stage)
Or would it just remove it?
If it had a clearcoat, you would not get color on your pad.

Beautiful work! Red just "comes back" so nice, doesn't it?
By the way, is the owner selling to make room for a new Evo X?

Detailed: 2003 Mitsu. EVO (Xtreme Makeover!)
As you can tell from the title, this was the biggest restoration I've done to date. It's red with a ton of oxidation. This was yet another referral. The customer is about to sell this vehicle so he wanted it extremely clean. He has over 10k in mods to it. 329HP to the wheels on pump gas; 389WHP on 104 octane! This was the first time I got a tip before I even started on a vehicle.
Here's what it got:
(Actually took some before shots!)
NXT Tech Wash
(Clayed while during the wash cycle)
Meguiar's #80
(EDGE2K Yellow Pad at #6)
Had to clean this thing out 6 times! And it's double sided!
XMT Machine Glaze
(EDGE2K Orange Pad at #4 setting)
Souveran Liquid Wax-2 coats
(EDGE2K White Pad at #3 setting)
Once again, a tough one. About 5-6 hours on the paint alone. Interior was really clean so no shots of it. #80 took all the oxidation off with one pass and polished out nicely. Again, XMT glaze stole the show giving it the wet depth followed by the gloss of Souveran.
Customer was extremely pleased!
Befores.......
A little half&half shot or two......
A very messy pad shot.....(LOL!)
