Re: Best for black?
I am probably not answering your question and perhaps you may find it a bit annoying but the following needs to be considered. NO AMOUNT OF WAX... at least the ones I have come across will make a swirled out car out shine a car with a flawless finish with NO WAX.2012 Acura CBP TL SH-AWD Tech

The popular consensus is that Gold Class really deepens the overall look of a darker, well cared for surface. To get the most out of any waxing effort, you'd want your paint as defect and contaminate free, before applying the wax. That being said, Meguiars has recently released Black Wax, especially suited for darked colored vehicles.

Where you might find Gold Class to be more to your liking on black than some other waxes is down to GC being a carnauba wax with some polishing oils in it. A common argument for carnauba over synthetics on dark colors is that carnauba waxes tend to give a deeper, richer, warmer look on dark colors. If you hold that opinion yourself and therefore prefer carnauba over synthetics on dark colors, then you may well prefer GC over Ultimate on your car.Michael Stoops

Re: Best for black?
As for layering Gold Class over Ultimate, I can vouch for it. Tried it last week. After letting two coats of Ultimate Paste cure, I applied Gold Class to half of the hood of my black Saab Aero so I could check out the difference. The side with Ultimate+GC is indeed blacker and richer.
As for prep steps necessary to make a black car look good, I can vouch for those, too. My routine: 1) Wash 2) Clay bar 3) ScratchX on scratches 4) Swirl X 5) Ultimate Polish 6) Ultimate Wax. Using a DA polisher, this will take an entire weekend. But it makes the car look amazing. Trying shortcuts (believe me, I've tried) results in less-than-perfect results.
I've also discovered that a black car is unforgiving if your technique isn't spot on. The things I've learned about compound/Swirl X/polish:
1) Use less product on the pad (a few small dabs will do a section)
2) Clean pad with a towel between doing sections
3) Go slow with the DA and really work the product
4) After doing a section, wipe down THOROUGHLY with a MF towel
When waxing:
1) Apply a THIN coat
2) Allow to haze completely (I give mine at least 30 mins)
3) Wipe down by hand
4) Buff with DA and MF bonnet
Yep, it's all a lot of work, but it's a labor of love.

Re: Best for black?
+1 for prepping for black cars, super tedious but its worth it!
my routine this year: wash, claybar, swirl remover 2.0, machine glaze, wolfgang paint sealant, ultimate paste wax. after all of that, i use ultimate wash and wax weekly if its only dust and light water marks, and just for overkill, i also put on ultimate quik wax.
not only is the car super shiny, its smooooooooooth to the touch....smoother than glass

Re: Best for black?
My correction process has been:- Wash/Clean
- Clay with Regular Detailer
- Ultimate Compound -->> Burgundy-Cutting DA Pad
- Ultimate Polish -->> Yellow-Polishing DA Pad
- Gold Class Liquid Carnauba Wax -->> Beige-Finishing DA Pad
By far the most work is the claying and compounding, with the polish step being easier to apply and remove, giving that glassy show car look. The wax step is even easier, and functionally wax just protects all that prep work...but yes, I think Gold Class gives a really sexy look to black you can't get otherwise. No need for two wax layers, as the UC/UP were enough to get the Ultimate look underneath.
It's been 5 months now since I did a full correction. The heat and rain have delayed me doing a second correction this year so far. After I do it, I also need to have the front clip's paint chips blended (sanded and airbrushed) out by a professional, too. Since my first correction, I've used Gold Class Quik Detailer and Gold Class Quik Wax prodigiously to keep the car looking perfect
I could go on. The difference between Gold Class and Ultimate is subtle, like a golden shine vs a silver shine, but I definitely recommend it as a wax for dark and black, regularly boosted by the Quik version so you don't have to care about how long it did or didn't last. My black is a metallic pearl, which looks like a custom paint job due to these steps and due to using Gold Class!Non-Garaged Daily Driver, DAMF System + M101, Carnauba Finish Enthusiast
