I own a silver vehicle and a black vehicle owns me. The black one demands attention, washing, detailing, waxing and an occasional dinner out at a nice restaurant. The silver one demands nothing and it looks just fine. I think the black vehicle is taking advantage of me, and the silver car is more my style. We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.
As for ColorX becoming difficult to find, we feel your pain. If we could dictate which products are carried at which stores we certainly would, but it's not up to us to determine this.
So Meguiar's is still making ColorX full steam, and not that it is being fazed out in favor of Black and White wax, and it is the stores not buying it? OR, is Black and White wax just ColorX repackaged for the masses? My guess anyway.

Yes, ColorX is still being made. The difficulty with getting placement of our entire line, or even a very large part of our line, in any store chain is their shelf space. They only have so much room, and the buying public is always looking for the newest, latest, greatest thing. Hey, your iPhone5 was bleeding edge when it came out a year ago, but now you're ready to dump that piece of trash for the iPhone6 because it's so..... so.... NEW!!! Heck, when we introduced Ultimate Wash & Wax, we actually had the buyer from one autoparts chain say they wanted to carry it and asked whether we wanted them to stop carrying Gold Class or Deep Crystal wash to make room for it. Gosh, we'd rather you carry all three and dump one of our competitors car washes instead!
As for Black and White Waxes just being repackaged ColorX for the masses..... well, ColorX is for the masses. It's basically the consumer packaging of M66, which is highly regarded in the pro line. Black Wax and White Wax are vastly different - heck, White Wax even uses the same abrasives used in M101, and that product wasn't even a sparkle in our eye when ColorX came to be. As straight up cleaner waxes go, ColorX was a big leap beyond our traditional A12 Cleaner Wax, and White Wax blows both into the weeds as far as defect removal capabilities go. Don't let that jump in defect removing ability scare you off though - if you apply it with a DA buffer in the same manner that you would apply a compound, it cuts like crazy. But if you apply it by hand in a more traditional wax application manner, it's still totally safe to use on all but the thinnest, very old paint.
ColorX is great stuff, no doubt, but as mentioned in the comments above it is easily outclassed by the cutting ability of White Wax. On darker paints, the cut from Black Wax is not quite as great, but the polishing oil load is higher. So "better" is a relative term here as we can argue that White Wax is "better" than Black Wax in some ways, and in other ways the opposite is true.

Remember, this hobby is supposed to be your therapy, not the reason you need therapy.
I can attest to what Mike has stated about ColorX and White Wax. I have used both with a DA and a polishing pad. The correction I got from white wax is on a whole other level than with colorx.
Thanks for the replies my local canadian tire had black wax so i think i'll give that a whirl till i'm more comfortable working with the products then go to UC and UP and maybe a D A Polisher to save the arms lol.
I have nearly a full bottle which I was going to throw out because it was so hard to remove. While I certainly did not add too much polish, I "may" have over worked it. Perhaps I will give it one more try in the spring before getting rid it.
Give it it another go.
Works for me...
Prime the pad well, pad should not have any dry spots.
In most case only 2-3 pea size drops is all that is needed, I always make sure not to work too big of an area, I think this is most important in using any polish.
Remember, Your not trying to removing defects if you used a compound first, only trying to remove hazing and to polish the paint to a higher shine.
No need to use a lot of pressure, using light pressure is all that's needed.
As as I said, it's been a while since I last used it being the m205 is my go too polish.
I'll use it today, maybe I could add to what I just said.
It's really a great polish IMO.
It annoyed me also when ColorX became unavailable. You can still find it on line if you want to be "hosed" with shipping charges. If you cannot find Black Wax, you can use Mother's Cleaning Wax Lots of that stuff at CT or Home Hardware. It is basically the same stuff, and quite good, and you can put Meguiar's over it.
Only if you let it dry on there. Remove it straight away, and you'll be fine.
