  • Clay lube

Hi I hope I'm not double posting but I have a used piece and a new unopened piece of clay from Meguiars Clay kit and I can't find the lube I had and can't find just the lube by itself anywhere. Do I have to buy a whole new kit and throw away two good pieces of clay just to buy the clay lube?

First off why would you throw two new pieces of clay away. You can save them for future use.

You should be able to find the quik detailer at your local auto parts store.

Or you could invest in D155. You can use it as a detail spray and dilute it to use it as clay lube.

I have some black spray detailer by turtle wax is it the same or just designed to enhance the paint of black vehicles in between washes or can I use it as a clay lube also?

I'd opt for a known, proven entity to accomplish this task. M34 in the Mirror Glaze line is another great clay lube.

There's no local retailers I don't want to spend extra money for the product then have to pay for shipping on top of it. I'm wanting to find something I can go buy and pick up the same day and second.

The red bottle quik detailer should be available locally. All the autoparts stores I see around here have it. Another alternative would be Mothers Showtime.

I just use the soapy water left over from washing the car. Works fine and costs nothing. When I am done I just rinse off the car.

That's a good option, which works fine... as long as the soapy water is not dirty!

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

Alternatively go to Wallymart and pick up a bottle of their Tune-IT quick detailer in the green sprayer for about 3 or 4 bucks and save the expensive good Meguiar's stuff for what it was designed for.

You should be able to find our regular, maroon bottle Quik Detailer at just about any auto parts store, Walmart or Target in your area. It's about as ubiquitous a product as you can get in this hobby! If for some bizarre reason nobody in your area carries (which just seems all but impossible) then any of our competitors basic quick detailer should suffice.

I was just wondering if anyone else does this also. Good to know I am not alone on this one.
I say hit it with the foam gun, use the wash mitt to get the crud off, then hit it again with foam. Work the clay over the area and rinse.
                          repeat as needed.

I'd be weary, some soaps break down clay and turn it to mush. CG citrus destroys clay after one contact.

CG Citrus is a fairly strong APC/Degreaser, general car soap is much millder and I use it myself as a clay lube. If need be I just mix a small bucket of fresh soap & water solution for claying.
