  • HELP!!! Black walnut stains on my paint, 105 won't touch them

I have black stains on my red clearcoat/base coat. I have tried the 105 ultracut compound by hand...many applications working in in a small area and it might fade it a little, but then it just hits a wall. It was suggested that I should get a DA buffer, but if it isnt effective when I apply it many, many times by hand I can't see the DA being the cure I am looking for. There were some bad hard water spots in the paint and they disappeared in no time, but the black stains wont budge.

I am hoping there is another solution. Does anyone out there have experience with this same situation?

As a last resort I hope the pigments in the stains may fade and disappear over time?

Ok that makes more sense now.
And how old is the paint?
        Ever waxed it?
So your paint is rock hard and a machine will defiantly have a bigger impact then your hand.
You can never correct paint by hand compared to a machine, that's why we use them - they work.
As long as the defect is on the surface then you can get it out. You just need the right tools.

the paint job is 2 years old, I wax it regularly with a product called Rejex.

I understand that the machine will have a bigger impact, but if I do it by hand 10 times with no improvement........I just want to be as sure as I can be that investing $200 in a DA and pads will hopefully solve the problem.

I was hoping that there was someone had the same issue and could chime in, but maybe there isn't

            You have hard paint.
Of course a machine will help
            I can't guarantee anything.
Bring it to me for a better assessment if you want me to do a test spot.

Re: HELP!!! Black walnut stains on my paint, 105 won't touch them

Alright I've done another few hours of research. I found this guy that used a product that neutralizes iron based stains using oxalic acid to get the black walnut stains off his hands.

In the woodturning hobby, we use green Black walnut logs, which stain the hands black. I use "wood whitener," aka "deck whitener." It's active ingredient is oxalic acid, which neutralizes iron (based) stains. Black walnut must be an iron based stain, because the Black walnut stain disappears like magic. However, it must leave a stain residue, because if one stains and neutralizes one's hands repeatedly, they seem to retain more and more stain, and removal becomes less and less complete. Not that I recommend using such harsh chemicals on one's skin routinely. If used occasionally, oxalic acid in wood whitener removes the Black walnut stain very effectively.
Obviously I am not going to just put wood whitener on my paint without doing some more research. Then I found this product which is designed specifically for car paint, and contains oxalic acid.

I will try and do even more research, to see if other people have successfully removed these stains using an iron neutralizing substance. I have read that black walnut is a good source of iron so hopefully I am on to something

If it's an iron based stain, there are a host of products out there designed specifically to neutralise iron on car paint.

IronX and Wolf's Decon Gel are two that spring to mind. Might be worth a shot..

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

                          Iron X did absolutely nothing

Stuff like this always seems to happen to me, i just can't catch a break.

Next on the list is that it is caused by the iodine in the black walnuts. Anyone have any remedies for iodine stains on automotive paint? The only thing I've found is ammonia.

Your not going to find a chemical that you can wipe on and take out just the stain.
You'll have to remove the paint that is stained, by buffing or sanding.

A DA and compound will yield better results than doing it by hand. It may be to far etched into the paint. If you are close by you should take a visit to Mario's shop and get him to look at it.
