  • Need help for a 14 years old car!!! (with picture)

Hello all..i'm new here but i need help with my car which is 14 yrs old Odyssey (97')..
the surface of the car is quite rough, but not too rough (not to mention with lots of cat scratches)...
there's water mark everywhere esp on windscreen
and sadly the hood/bonnet is where the paint shines the least and makes the car look very dull...
ok this happen because i once cover my car with a plastic car cover, and somehow the cover melt (yes, it's damn hot here in my country) on the bonnet...
anyone have recommendation what product should i use to remove it?
i'll post some picture for references...

FYI, i use M16, Turtle Ice Wax, M21 but none of it can help me to remove the defect...
any pros?i really need help here...

    Is this the factory paint?
First you need to clay the car after that you can apply m105 ultra cut compound that may help.

Well i am not an expert.Lets wait for the experts what they say.

anyway thanks for the advice bro...
      will try it soon...

That looks like oxidation to me. You need to use a cleaner type polish such as swirlX or ultimate compound. Are these products readily available to you? Please keep in mind that you have to attack the problem with the least aggressive method. For example, you would want to try SwirlX on a 16"x16" work area or something and then inspect your results. If the oxidation isn't removed then you have to step it up to a more aggressive product such as ultimate compound.

Are you working by hand or do you have a dual action polisher? If you are working by hand, please take time to read Mike Phillips' article on How-To-Remove-Swirls-By-Hand. Another great article is from Tuck91's on Tips-for-removing-swirls-by-hand-with-SMA-Technology. This article tells you how to work both products suggested by hand.

Good luck and let us know how it goes!

Well, hard to say for sure, but hopefully it isnt clear coat failure. Only a re-paint will solve that. But you may have to clean it up some before really seeing what condition it is in.

Was your pad just turning gray from dirt, or any blue color?

          You are working by hand?

Using a wax alone will not do anything. A wax is just a top-coat, not something that cleans or fixes up the surface.

I would want to get a product like Ultimate Compound or #105 Ultra Cut Compound and work over a panel or two, and see what happens. You really just want to focus on a small area at first, not the whole car, and see what change you can get.

Looks like it is probably water spots along the drip rail on the roof and oxidation on the hood. I agree with the Ultimate Compound or #105 diagnosis, as well. If the clay left marks, it was not lubricated enough. You are wanting to keep the area you are claying damp enough that the clay moves around easily and does not start to grab on the surface.
You mention #80 and #85 at the bottom of your post. If you are referring to #85 -Diamond Cut compound it is recommended for use with a rotary polisher. Its level of cut is similar to #105, but 105 works well with a DA and pretty well by hand. #105 sometimes will need a clarifying step before you put on your LSP.

Unfortunately you've got what looks to be a collection of very serious issues here - the hood (bonnet) appears to have clear coat failure; there are extremely deep scratches that appear to be showing primer; stains that look like serious etchings from bird droppings.

The three products you tried, M16, TW ICE and M21 are not designed to handle any of these issues. All three are used as the final product you apply to protect the finish after you've corrected existing defects. And that brings us back to the defects you've shown us. We really hate to be the bearers of bad news, but much of that simply can not be fixed by hand, if it all. Sure, you can make some progress toward brightening up the finish to an extent, but the car is not going to look new, or even close to new, even with very vigorous hand application of something as potent as M105. Sometimes the damage present is just too severe to be fully fixed. Clear coat failure can only be fixed one way, and that is to repaint the panel. Scratches that are down to the primer can only be fixed that same way, too.

You've got your work cut out here. Yes, improvements can be made, but we don't want you getting your hopes up and thinking you can "restore" this car to a like new appearance.

                ok...thanks for the advice all...
now i dont have it in stock, will look for it at local shop...
i'll try remove it first by using UC #105 first as recommended by Murr1525 and agp56...
if it doesn't work, guess i dont have any choice then, need to repaint the whole bonnet as rick recommend...
since i'm applying using hand, surely will take some time...
                anything, i'll update here...
                thanks for the advice

Some cleaning should at least show the condition better, see what is going on.
