Also there is something called product liability in Australian law .. I'll explore this.
I use a Lexus branded product that says, "test in an inconspicuous spot". Most of my inconspicuous spots are never dirty making the test kinda a waste and seldom is the leather perforated in those inconspicuous places anyway!

well i own a merc with vented seats

AVOID using thick, paste like cleaner/conditioner products on this sort of leather, get a foam sprayer, meguiar and many other brands offer foam cleaner/conditioner, the sprayed foam is much thinner and lighter so you simply wipe the foam around and won't get it trapped in the vented holes.

If you cant get the foam and must use the lotion, first spread the lotion around the cotton towel, wipe the un-vented area first, then the vented area, do a test spot and make sure the excess lotion won't get trapped inside. NEVER, NEVER put the lotion directly on the vented area and spread it around with a towel.

btw, my car came with a small label hanging on one of the headrest saying it's made from some dead animals in the fatherland, will require regular care/condition, and use of microfiber towel MAY DAMAGE the leather, use 100% cotton towels instead etc.
