  • Problem with Gold Class Rich Leather Cleaner/Conditioner

I have used this product on my MB seats, and the result is catastrophic.

As many of you know the leather in most of Mercedes cars is perforated.

The cream got trapped in the perforations, leaving white crud in the holes, and there are thousands of holes there. As my leather is dark, it now looks ridiculous and noticeable by everyone.

I have tried removing the residue with mf cloth, but the only thing that works is a tooth-pick, meaning I have to slightly punch every hole in order to take the white residue out.

Meguiaris, is there any other option to sort this out?!?!?

At least you should warn people about this on the label. I am sure there are many other unhappy customers out there.

Also, the amount of the cream I used was minimal, I can imagine what would happen if I used it the other way. It was applied with soft yellow foam pad of yours.

If you have a cooling or heating function on your car, like most newer cars do, your leather will look something like this...

Anything that is think like a cream will get trapped in there. I use Lexol cleaner and separate conditioner. The conditioner should be spread using a small terry cloth bonnet. It spreads more like an oil and is absorbed into the leather very quickly. I love Meguiars and use many of their products, but I haven't had any luck with their leather care products...sorry.

I've never had a problem with any Meguiars product including thier leather care systems. I have this same material in my MINI CooperS and have used Meguiars Gold Class Rich Leather Cleaner/Conditioner with excellent results and no white spots.

I don't think that's Meguiar's fault. I'd chalk this one up to user error. That can happen with any leather product when you have perforated seats. You have two options - spray the product onto your applicator and "fold" the applicator so the product is spread across the face of the pad and isn't just sitting there. Second, the new Leather Cleaner/Conditioner from Meguiar's is a clear gel, so you don't have white residue in the seams/stitches or in your case, the perforated holes. You might consider that. Otherwise, you're going to deal with this problem every time you condition your seats, pretty much regardless of whether you're using a lotion or spray.

To the contrary. I believe manufactures should test their products before selling them and label accordingly.

This product is definitely not appropriate for perforated leather.

I have found a number of complaints of the same nature regarding the same product on other forums as well.

I noticed on my Explorer (also with perforated leather) that the cream wasn't going to be a good decision- after the first swipe.

I like the GC conditioner, but I do tend to agree that the leather products are not the strongest in the Megs line. But I'm sure Megs tests their product. I know the frustration, but we're also supposed to test products before going full-on application. That's why I didn't slather all of my perforated seats with it... They do have products set up for perforated leather, like the spray gel.

As Shane stated, the product is not the problem here.

If not the product, what is it?

The product was applied as per manufacturers instructions, small amount and wiped of immediately with microfiber cloth.

It doesn't say on the bottle it's not to be used on perforated leather.

So, where is the users fault please?!

                    Cheers!

Did you use it outside or on a hot surface and did you do a test spot?

DIRECTIONS: SHAKE WELL. For best results, apply to a clean and cool surface.
                      1) Test for colorfastness and compatibility on a small, inconspicuous area.

If you wipe it down with an APC of some kind (diluted properly of course) the white dots should be eliminated. I would try it again on a small area and see if the same thing happens. If it does the same thing you could try Customer Service if all else fails.

Excuse my ignorance but what APC and MR stand for?!?

I would try the all purpose cleaner wipe down. Then apply the leather cleaner/conditioner very carefully.
