Washing the pads by hand with Dawn has worked great for me. The only catch is it takes forever for those pads to air dry. This might work better in the winter with dry indoor air. Sometimes rather than just wash the pads I buy new ones with the rationale I'll wash the older ones later. Meanwhile, the pads keep accumulating!

I would not want to risk putting the pads in a dryer. That is probably what does them in.

One thing that I have found is if you stand them up on end on a towel they seem top dry faster. All the water runs down to the towel. Give it a try see what you think.

Hey, that's a great idea! Thanks for the tip. Might as well make gravity work for us.

          Hey RamAirV1,

I agree. I have heard of some propping the pad's edge up on something like a yogurt container in order to get the air to flow around the pad.

Just from what I have heard...

After I wash my pads I role them up in a thick cotton terry towel.

It absorbs most of the water leaving them slightly moist.

Then I either let them air dry if I have the time, or spin them for 3 seconds on my PC (no more or it may damage the velcro adhesion) and use them slightly damp with any of the abrasive polishes (its like priming the pad with QD).

Of course, if your going to use it with a pure polish or LSP, you'll need to let it dry completely.

I have more than 30 pads. They all get washed at least once a week..

We use a 3 bucket method:

              1. Dawn soak for several hours or more. Hand scrub/agitate, squeeze dry.

              2. Rinse, squeeze, rinse squeeze, repeat.

              3. Rinse, squeeze, rinse squeeze, repeat.

If the water in the third bucket is still clear, squeeze, and spin in bucket #4 via the PC or rotary for 10 seconds, and airdry over night.

Kinda labor/time intensive, but, at $10-12 each, these pads deserve special attention.

              Oh Yeah, heat is bad...

                Hi Jim,

It looks like you have dialed-in a system of cleaning your pads that is working for you. Have you noticed any de-lamination problems overtime with this procedure?

Also, is this with all brands of foam buffing pads you use?

no offense to you man but more than likely if you own a viper you can easily afford 32 bucks for pads. But more than likely im betting these are defective pads

I finally just had a pad loose it's velcro on me. I've got some fairly expensive 3M 90 contact adhesive which seems to stick to anything which I think I'll give a try on it and report back.

                      Just to chime in,

It's not a good idea to make generalizations about people by the car they drive even though it's kind of a knee jerk reaction many people have.

I know Newport Viper personally and he's a hard worker and a genuinely nice person. Always willing to help. It's only normal to want to get the most out of a product you've purchased whether that product is foam buffing pad from Meguiar's or a Viper from Dodge.

Also, Meguiar's does not recommend washing our foam buffing pads in a washing machine. We sell thousands of pads every year and our return rate is very low, this would lead me to believe our quality control is very high. If and when there is a problem, we always guarantee our products and back up our guarantee.

Uhhh sorry. But im still going with my first thought and newport the viper does look very nice but it still cant compete with a brand new jeep covered in a fresh coating of mud. LOL
And how i clean my pads is a pressure washer.

Thanks Mike. I do try to get the most out of everything. If I keep spending money on pads. I won't ever save enough for the supercharger!

Mike, no problems... the pads gradually become less dense, but I don't perceive a difference in performance.

No problems with delamination, but, we do not use heat.

The only other pad we use are some 4" pads for the Cyclo. Same process, same results.

                              Now, about the backing plates...
