  • #7 Show Car Glaze: One incredible product...

For those of you who have graciously provided advice regarding the unending saga of my trunk lid, I thank you. As an introduction to how totally amazed and satisfied I am with Meguiar's #7 Show Car Glaze, I attach a paste of today's correspondence with corporate.

    From: Bob Patterson [mailto:GO.GATORS@]

Subject: Thank you so very much...

    Hello Michael,

Thank you so much for your detailed response to my gloss dilemma.

As fate would have it, the only pure polish I could locate today was #7 Show Car Glaze, and boy am I glad I did! My vehicle looks as if Mazda did a total swap out of my trunk.

I called your tech line to ask if I should remove my NXT 2.0 with some mildly applied Swirl X and I did so as instructed by your technical advisor.

When I can capture the words to aptly describe it's stupendous performance, I'll start a MOL thread.

I've suffered from OCD most of my adult life, and was seriously considering trading in this MX-5 with less than 400 miles on the odometer since purchasing it new in February of 2009.

I would like to thank all the corporate members from Meguiar's ONLINE for their unending patience and rock solid information which they provided me.

I would also consider it a personal favor if Mr. Meguiar was to receive a carbon of this letter of heart felt appreciation.

    Hi Bob,

You just made my day! Red can be a pretty amazing color, especially when some serious attention is lavished on it, and there is no doubt youve been doing just that on your Miata. Whatever you do, dont get rid of it! That poor car would never again see the kind of attention youre giving it, and they are fantastic little cars!

Thanks again, and Ill definitely pass your comments along. Looking forward to your MOL thread on the subject.

At this writing, the words to describe this product still escape me, save to say that, with the possible exception of my 37 year old Zippo lighter, #7 has wildly exceeded my expectations and has proven to be perhaps the best $12.41 I've ever spent.

I found the general impressions and arduous techniques some of the on-line pundits voice to be extremely misleading. It can easily lead one to believe that using this polish is some sort of confusing and mystical hit or miss process.

    It's wet
Actually, it's not really all that wet
Well, at first it's wet, but then it's not; but... awe geeze, now it's wet again
Time to switch to my second dozen of clean MF's
    It's greasy and oily
    It smears
It takes forever to finally remove it, and then only with the greatest of difficulty

As my father was fond of telling me, "If all else fails, read and follow the instructions."
This #7 is a very straight forward product; both in it's application and removal.

After cleansing the surface with a few passes of Swirl X:

    1) Prime a foam applicator with a few evenly spaced DROPS of product

    2) Work a small area c. 12" x 12" at first until you get the feel of the process

    3) Massage the polish on and into the paint with light to barely medium pressure

    4) Continue working in this manner until the applicator just barely begins to glide less easily, as the product is now being absorbed both into the paint and the applicator and is just starting to show a hint of drying.

    5) Take your pre folded, clean 16" x 16" MF and wipe it off with a few very easy swipes. Flip the towel and give it a finishing buff with the other side of the towel.

    That's it.

The result, in my case, was a Mazda True Red non metallic clearcoat that just got more amazing in it's gloss, clarity and depth with every reveal. I was actually having so much fun and it was so easy to use that I purposely had to remember to stop after the fourth application. I believe the Law of Diminishing Marginal Utility had just about set in after the fourth application.

I sealed things up with two coats of NXT 2.0 paste; favoring the brilliant highlights over the deeper reflections of #26.

Clearly, this product has a very, very targeted market audience. My lowly MX-5 is hardly a show car by any stretch, and falls more into the category of a garage queen. It's my toy. It's totally impractical. It's lousy for schlepping to and from the airport, but at the very minimum it's at least showroom or better, it's very bright, very shiny, very red and I love it. Thank you Meguiar's!

Hi BoB,That's great news.I'm glad you found the right product.

Your car must look pretty amazing now.

I wish I could get some stuff over here.

My Zippo is only 24 years old! I got it free from marlboro aswell. The others aren't that young either.Great things.I still keep 'em around even though I chucked puffing over a month ago.

Thanks for the tips on application of the #7. I also purchased the same combonation of #7 glaze and NXT 2.0 paste. Have not tried it yet but want to soon.

Do you have any pictures? Before/after?

Does the slight cleaning ability of nxt not take off the oils left from the m07? I was going to try m07 this weekend but thought i'd have to use m26...???? Just wondering

I'll defer to Mike Stoops on that one, but given that it's apparently the oils themselves that so drastically improve the finish, I sure wouldn't think so.
Standing just as tall after as before.

I'd post pics, but I'm a computer yutz baby boomer. Someday, I'll have the seven year old kid next door show me, if and when I get to do a shoot.

This was discussed just a little while ago. Mike says no... that _all_ Meg products are meant to layer. The cleaning ability of NXT is almost non-existent.

Yeah M07 is some amazing stuff! They say it's more effective on SS paint, I've only used it on dark CC paint and it does leave that deep high gloss shine (the "wet" look) that we all love. 'Ole #7 has a permenate spot in my detailing bag. Congrats on the Mazda, she may not be a "showcar" but at least in your eyes she is!

I thought that it was only the wax's and sealant's that were able to layer and that everything else, layering was not nesessary?

i know the NXT's cleaning ability is very slight and non existent but i was asking because people said to do NXT then m26 not m26 then NXT because the NXT's cleaning ability will eliminate the m26...??? figured it might be the same here, guess not.

Re: #7 Show Car Glaze: One incredible product...

Bob, as mentioned in a previous email - glad to see it worked out so well for you and that you had so much fun using M07.

Now to clear up a bit of confusion. Something got a bit misconstrued here - we say that all of our products are "compatible", not that they are "meant to layer". There's a big difference, and quite obviously any product with true cleaning ability can not "layer". So while you can apply a layer (although "coat" is probably a better word) of NXT Generation Tech Wax 2.0 over M07 Show Car Glaze, you can't really apply a layer of Cleaner Wax over M07. Yes, you can use Cleaner Wax over M07, but you'll be removing the vast majority of M07, if not all of it, due to the cleaning ability of the Cleaner Wax and as such you would not have a layer of Cleaner Wax over M07. Products like NXT Tech Wax 2.0, M21 Synthetic Sealant, M26 Hi-Tech Yellow Wax, and Deep Crystal Carnauba are not cleaner waxes so their application won't remove M07. Make sense?

As for the word "layering", that tends to get into discussions regarding the application of multiple layers, or coats, of wax so as to either build up a protective barrier or continually improve gloss. This topic has been the subject of countless debates and cyber-wars over the years (which, please, let's not get into here!!) but Meguiar's stance on this is pretty clear: Two thin coats of a wax/sealant is preferable, if only to ensure uniform coverage and appearance. Beyond that you're just using more product than needed.

Hey, we'd love for you to use as many of our products as possible, but in the long run we want you to be happy with our products. If that means using less product so that the product performs optimally, then that is our ultimate goal.

Just because it's not a show car, doesn't mean it doesn't deserve show car paint.

Heck, in my many years of attending car shows. Most "Show Cars" don't even have show car quality paint.

Michael, does #7 hinder the adhesiveness of LSP (M26)?

One thing that spoils #7 for me is that it seems to completely wash away after two car washes. I assume any LSP is washed away with it as well. Mind you, I prepared the surface and applied the product correctly.
