For those of you who have graciously provided advice regarding the unending saga of my trunk lid, I thank you. As an introduction to how totally amazed and satisfied I am with Meguiar's #7 Show Car Glaze, I attach a paste of today's correspondence with corporate.

Hello Michael,
Thank you so much for your detailed response to my gloss dilemma.
As fate would have it, the only pure polish I could locate today was #7 Show Car Glaze, and boy am I glad I did! My vehicle looks as if Mazda did a total swap out of my trunk.
I called your tech line to ask if I should remove my NXT 2.0 with some mildly applied Swirl X and I did so as instructed by your technical advisor.
When I can capture the words to aptly describe it's stupendous performance, I'll start a MOL thread.
I've suffered from OCD most of my adult life, and was seriously considering trading in this MX-5 with less than 400 miles on the odometer since purchasing it new in February of 2009.
I would like to thank all the corporate members from Meguiar's ONLINE for their unending patience and rock solid information which they provided me.
I would also consider it a personal favor if Mr. Meguiar was to receive a carbon of this letter of heart felt appreciation.

Hi Bob,
You just made my day! Red can be a pretty amazing color, especially when some serious attention is lavished on it, and there is no doubt youve been doing just that on your Miata. Whatever you do, dont get rid of it! That poor car would never again see the kind of attention youre giving it, and they are fantastic little cars!
Thanks again, and Ill definitely pass your comments along. Looking forward to your MOL thread on the subject.

At this writing, the words to describe this product still escape me, save to say that, with the possible exception of my 37 year old Zippo lighter, #7 has wildly exceeded my expectations and has proven to be perhaps the best $12.41 I've ever spent.
I found the general impressions and arduous techniques some of the on-line pundits voice to be extremely misleading. It can easily lead one to believe that using this polish is some sort of confusing and mystical hit or miss process.
It's wet
Actually, it's not really all that wet
Well, at first it's wet, but then it's not; but... awe geeze, now it's wet again
Time to switch to my second dozen of clean MF's
It's greasy and oily
It smears
It takes forever to finally remove it, and then only with the greatest of difficulty
As my father was fond of telling me, "If all else fails, read and follow the instructions."
This #7 is a very straight forward product; both in it's application and removal.
After cleansing the surface with a few passes of Swirl X:
1) Prime a foam applicator with a few evenly spaced DROPS of product
2) Work a small area c. 12" x 12" at first until you get the feel of the process
3) Massage the polish on and into the paint with light to barely medium pressure
4) Continue working in this manner until the applicator just barely begins to glide less easily, as the product is now being absorbed both into the paint and the applicator and is just starting to show a hint of drying.
5) Take your pre folded, clean 16" x 16" MF and wipe it off with a few very easy swipes. Flip the towel and give it a finishing buff with the other side of the towel.
That's it.
The result, in my case, was a Mazda True Red non metallic clearcoat that just got more amazing in it's gloss, clarity and depth with every reveal. I was actually having so much fun and it was so easy to use that I purposely had to remember to stop after the fourth application. I believe the Law of Diminishing Marginal Utility had just about set in after the fourth application.
I sealed things up with two coats of NXT 2.0 paste; favoring the brilliant highlights over the deeper reflections of #26.
Clearly, this product has a very, very targeted market audience. My lowly MX-5 is hardly a show car by any stretch, and falls more into the category of a garage queen. It's my toy. It's totally impractical. It's lousy for schlepping to and from the airport, but at the very minimum it's at least showroom or better, it's very bright, very shiny, very red and I love it. Thank you Meguiar's!
