Re: DC-1 Discontinued
I have a bottle and a half left. I use so little to do a car that this supply should get me through the next 3-4 years. Not sure how Meguiars makes its money at that rate.

As a businessman, I would imagine that the decision to discontinue the DC-1 is one that is driven by profit.
Originally posted by Mike Pennington View PostDC-1 is being phased out in the US. However, it will still be available outside the US...
On the other hand it might just be that DC-1 cannot meet the new VOC standards in the USA or some such, just like M16 and thus it had to be dropped. Tweaking these recipes takes lab time and I'm sure the squints are working hard on more profitable future products at the moment. I would not be surprised to see these products re-introduced in a new formula in the future, if the demand is there.
For whatever reason, and it's a shame really, a nice, straight forward, chemical type paint cleaner is a handy thing to have. To be honest, I've used A12 and DG 501 as cleaners but both leave some LSP behind, even if you wipe them off while wet. Does it matter?!?! I dunno...... It seems most products mix reasonably well in our application but for those times when one might really really want just one specific LSP to go onto clean paint, and one didn't need to do any correction, DC-1 seemed to fit the bill. As a substitute, I'd probably use A12 with an IPA wipe down if I get real concerned about mixing base coats.

Re: DC-1 Discontinued
If Ultimate Compound left any marring behind then simply follow up with SwirlX. If you want to apply something to the entire car by hand then a 16oz bottle of ColorX would be ideal.

Re: DC-1 Discontinued
I bought some ultimate compound this weekend and it worked great for getting water marks off but now there off next time I wash I want to get the paint to shine (it's a black car if that matters).

- The DC-1 MAY be relatively costly to produce and the price for such product is sticky
- The DC-1 MAY have lost its edge against the products flooded by the competition
- The DC-1 MAY have lost its sales due to the introduction of Meguiar's other products
- The DC-1 MAY simply be unpopular among consumers (the product's popularity on MOL is not representative of the true market)
There are many good reasons why a product is discontinued. If Meguiar's chooses to discontinue the production and sale of DC-1, then they probably have reasons for that as well. These reasons may not be known to the marketers, researchers, or technical personnels of Meguiar's, and are known only to the executives of the corporation.

We all know that SwirlX does more than simply remove swirls. It is a cleaner polisher that is effective for scratches and blemishes. But people tend to get the idea that it is designed strictly for swirls. Having an old black M5 on the label also makes it suggest that it is a product to combat strictly swirls on older black cars like the 80's M5.Originally posted by Slicked View PostDC#1 is a great chemical cleaner, great for a pre-wax cleanse. I cannot understand the decision to discontinue it. SwirlX cuts too much for the sort of applications that people typically use DC#1 for.
Far too many people still "wax" their cars, have no idea bout cleaner / polish / sealant etc....
It's naive to assume that most people are going to research online what to use and how to use it.
Having a 1-2-3 step product on the shelf keeps it simple for those looking for something more than wax.
Without this forum I would have never bought Swirl-X or Color-X for quick fixes.

Re: DC-1 Discontinued
For anyone out there looking for a product similar in cut to Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner, there is M09 Swirl Remover 2.0 readily available at most auto parts stores.
Shouldnt be too hard.

Re: DC-1 Discontinued
When you apply the SwirlX, you will work it in a little (or a lot if more cleaning is needed), and then remove before dry.
You can move your hands in whatever pattern your like.

Re: DC-1 Discontinued
Finally my friend bought me a bottle of SwirlX from Buffalo and I will get it in the next 1-2 days. I will then do WASH - SwirlX - Yellow Wax.
I did clay 2-3 months ago and the paint surfaces are still very smooth.
So, I guess SwirlX is like DC-1, apply and remove right away, one section at a time. When I apply SwirlX, should I use the yellow pad and rub it hard in circular motions?
