  • Barry was on ABC today

The Los Angeles ABC station did a report on the water shortage today. Guess who they interviewed and got tips from.

Titled: How to Wash Cars the Waterless Way.

Very Cool, I was wondering if they were going to demonstrate UQW and what do ya know, they did!

I once put swirls in my paint just to see what it looked like.

        I don't always detail cars, but when I do, I prefer Meguiar's.
        Remove swirls my friends.

It's great to see someone with so much enthusiasm for their company and it's products. I have a 3 month old car. I haven't washed it in 2 months in LA. Every few days I bust out the california duster and then the NXT speed detailer and a microfiber towel. It saves water and the hastle of washing it all the time.

Now Meguiar's need to introduce something along the lines of ONR. I'd buy gallons of it.

With a light pressure washer, 2-3 gallons can do 15 cars easy.

Detailers clean places nobody see. Detailer see's things nobody else see. But if you ask a Detailer to see how a dress looks on a woman, they are blind.

Re: Barry was on ABC today

Sorry for hijack, but does anybody know how much water it usually takes to wash a typical car?

The State of NC says around 115 gallons, but I say that that is hogwash. I don't know for sure, but I am going to say about 40 gallons or less if a person uses a shut-off nozzle.

115 gallons maybe if you have no nozzle and the water is steadily running maybe, but that kind of seems high to me as well

Re: Barry was on ABC today

I had to do some research and I found that I used 15 to 20 gallons of water to wash my cars. That is with a control nozel. 115 gallons, maybe a semi truck. I'm curious about how much water is used on a semi when washing.

I agree. Given the water shortages around the country--and they are only going to get worse!--I am surprised that Meguiar's has not come out with a product that is equivalent, if not superior, to ONR. IMHO, a quick detailer is not a substitute for a real wash, whether waterless or waterfull. I'm certainly not going to use a quick detailer when my car is filthy. I know I have instilled swirls in my black Honda through by using a quick detailer when I should have washed it. Moreover, it should have been stated at some point in the news report that if one is going to use a quick detailer to keep one's car clean, one needs to use it on a daily basis. Meguiar's is behind the curve here when it should be ahead of the curve. IMHO.
