There is a chance that the etching is simply too severe and deep for it to be safely removed. I know that is not the advice one likes to receive, but it is a possibility that must be considered.

For now, you may just want to go over the area with a cleaner wax, or your wax of choice, and then think about whether or not you can live with the water spots as-is, or if you need to take more drastic measures such as continued wet sanding and compounding or a possible re-spray of clear coat.

Sometimes it is easy to get caught up in a problem and get tunnel vision, and you may end up creating more problems than solutions.

Go back to the body shop and complain. See what happens.

You're right, I'm just so disappointed because I let myself go further into debt with the paint job but I was so happy I was going to have a perfect spotless hood..

Also just to clarify, this paint job has not been wet-sanded. I had wet sanded it before to get rid of the touch up paint from the million rocks chips and burnt the clear coat in the process, so then I got the paint job.

I wanted to also add that I tried a different foam hand applicator, a newer one. It's more stiff and stronger, and it seemed to work much better. I got rid of some other water etchings. Left some small marks but that's fine I planned to use M205 with the G110 afterwards.

I read somewhere that someone suggested not machine washing buffing pads because the detergents contain compression agents or something. They said it was OK to wash the hand ones though, but I'd have to disagree now.

I wash the hand applicators with the ordinary stuff in 2 litre bottles, which is used for washing your clothes. There are no harmfull substances or any softners in it.Sorry that sounds a bit vague, but washing clothes is not my speciality.I can't even run a washing machine!

To get the heavy stuff off,I just apply the liquid soap directly onto the sponge and rub it with another used one(both surfaces together) and rinse well under warm water. Then I fill up my bucket with a cap of this soap and some warm water and just leave them overnight.I give a good rinse the following day.I do the same with the microfibres and havn't had any problems.

Do you think that it's OK to wax at this time? I planned to wait at least 30 days but he did say just a couple weeks at the body shop.

Also, I just went to check the cloth I left there. It seems that the hot vinegar with the MF did help a bit, but the etchings are still visible.

Should I attempt fix all the water spots, or just see what the body shop says?

I'm worried that if I take it back they'll just use a rotary on it, so it wouldn't be much different than doing it myself.. Just faster.

I forgot that you just had this painted, so waxing this soon is NOT a good idea.

GOOD CATCH, and sorry for that poor advice. Things are a bit hectic around here!

I think your best bet is to hit the area with some M07 for now, and then go get an opinion at the body shop. Possibly ask them how much clear they put on and get an idea of how aggressive they think you can safely get on it.

I think that is your only option left--To go to the bodyshop ASAP,and see what they have to say.

Do you know these guys well? An earlier thread said you should complain. You might have a bit of a fight on your hands if you accuse them of neglegence.Try and talk to them first,in a reasonable manner,to try and find out what went wrong. They might redo the affected panel for you.?

I'll call them first thing tomorrow.

I can make a few of the water etchings less visible but their outlines were etched in really really deep... I'm in shock still on how this happens in just a few hours...

I called the body shop this morning.

They said they'd take care of it if I could drop it off for a day. Thursday is my day off so I'm looking at that if I can find a ride...
