  • Why not use water for windows?

I have found that most of the window cleaners I have used (most of which are cheap and OTC) leave streaks and look bad. I now always use water and it works fine and doesn't leave streaks. Why does everybody pay for nice window cleaning products instead of just using water?

Try Stoner's Invisible Glass. It's a really good product, and a lot of people here on MOL use it.

Pure water doesn't cut through film and contaminants as well as a glass cleaner would. The water would need an extra little oomph to help tackle the stubborn windows. Have a look at Megs D-Line Glass Cleaner. It's mostly water with very little concentrate. You don't need much, but you do need some.

Thats exactly what I mean though why buy Stoners when you can go to the faucet and get water?
I'm sure its a good product and better than using something like Windex, but I just don't see the point in spending money on something that water can take the place of? Does everybody other than me have incredibly dirty interior windows that water can't clean off?

Two words, "smokers film". I don't, but i've come across smoker's vehicles and it was not pretty. No way i would've tried tackling it with plain water.

SC Clearly better has been working great for me, I will be switching over to Zep Professional the green color, it works great and $10 for a gallon makes 33 gallons of glass cleaner. But you can use distilled water for cleaning glass, use a Waffle Weave towel and a glass towel.

The detailer line glass cleaner is the best I have used. ONR also works well on the outside of the windows.

Try out some sprayway glass cleaner or the D-Line cleaner, both can be found at ADS. I havent used the D-Line cleaner but have heard great things, and the sprayway is the best Ive ever used sorry megs

Let me pose a similar question to you. Why do you wash your car with soap and water? Why not save money, skip the soap, and just use water? Just a thought...

For my cars the back windows get a lot of touches by my little ones hands and water just does not cut it. For the front ones water is fine

Its really a matter of water is ok for maintenance, but the dirtier things get, the better of a cleaner you need.

Though I would like to mention that using cheap OTC cleaners can easily discourage a person....

Water and a dedicated microfiber cloth...polish with a dry MF towel. Works for me.

An easy way of making your own window washing solution (if you do not want to buy Stoners IG/SprayWay/et al) is very simple. Distilled water mixed with 1/6 dilution of vinegar and 1/6 solution of isopropyl alcohol.
