It's in the downtown area for sure.

I need to e-mail this photo to the Observer newspaper and see if I can find out a little bit of info about this company.

$1.50 for that stuff back in the day, that's like spending $40 on wax now, must be good stuff! :P

I've struck-out so far, but the reporter gave me a number to call at the library, so I'll follow-up on that next.

They still make "Kit" wax, and they still make "Rally Cream Wax".

When I was a kid, the popular stuff was "Rally", "No. 7 Auto Polish" and "Simoniz".

I found an empty can of "Rally" in my grandparents' garage in 2000. I kept it and it said on the can that "Rally" was..."The 1/2 hour car wax".

Rally was first made by DuPont, then it was sold to Armor All, then to a company called Cyclo, who also sells "No. 7 Auto Polish". You can find both in auto parts stores, or through the Cyclo website. "No. 7" was supposed to be good at removing oxidation.

When I was 16 and had my 1981 Z/28, I used "Simoniz Shines Like the Sun".. it came in a round, yellow bottle that was shaped like "a little sun".

Someone mentioned "Turtle Wax Color Back". The formula they made back in the early 1980s was good stuff. I used it on my father's 1982 red, Chevy S-10 Pickup. When he sold it in 1990, it had to be cleaned-up, and it was never, never, polished or waxed.

The red paint was dull, dull, dull. As I waxed the truck, my white cloths turned red, with dead paint. This stuff gave it a deep, shine and it looked like it had been re-painted.

Unfortunately, "Turtle Wax" dropped this formula, in favor of a "clear coat safe" formula. I tried this formula (which they sell today), and it did nothing. It's too bad they changed formulas.

I remember "TR-3" and Mr. T doing the print ads and commercials.
It is hard to believe they still make it.

I remember the TV spots, when he would walk up to a car, tear the door off, and start waxing it with "TR-3". I think the slogan he used in the TV spots was, "TR-3"...take it from me...Mr.T!"

I remember a polish/wax product called "Auri". It was some type of "space-age polymer" they sold on TV; it came in a white, plastic jug-type bottle...anyone else remember it?

                I found it...hard to believe!

The colored waxes that they sell now is not new . Dupli-color made colored waxes in the 50s. The first quick detailer was made in the 60s by a company called Car Groom (the cosmetic for cars) by the name of Magic Mist. Does anybody remember in the early 50s when you could repaint your car with a power puff? How about Dupont Spray Glaze , used by car dealers, after the car was buffed you poured this stuff in a spray gun and sprayed the car with it . After it dried you wiped the car off. How about Porclenize, it was a 3 step process that was promoted by dealers.

Auri came out I believe in the late 80's or early 90's, I remember watching the infomercials on late nite TV. These were the ones with the guy with the English voice running around like a chicken with his head cut-off light the hood on fire and other such nonsense.

The label said it was safe on clear coats, the back label listed some type of harsh abrasive as an ingredient. Someone brought me some to me at my detail shop and I tested a little bit on a black car, sure enough it scratched the paint.

I put it on the shelf with my other collection of gimmick products and never used it again.

What product was it that had the infomercials where they would set a car on fire (or at least hold a lit torch to the paint) to prove how much the wax protected the finish? I always thought those were funny...

Or how about that Blue Coral wax with Fomblin A that was floating around a few years back. I actually liked that wax and used it a few times because they gave this big speech on how it will protect your car from attracting dust....LOL I guess when you are young though you believe anything.

                            Guys

Any of you remember 'Crystal Glo' Polish. Seem to remember bying some in Lawton Oklahoma in about '92. It came to the Uk a few years later but has since been discontinued. It was pretty good from what i remember, certainly a step up from the Turtle Wax Hard Shell wax i had used previously.

I remember that ad, the tortured a poor Mustang with all the AMAZING properties of their wax.

Also don't forget the acid "TEST" they did.
