    1996 Honda Prelude VTEC
1993 Nissan 300ZX Twin Turbo (current)

I'm a vette freak too... I just hope that some day I have the opportunity to snag a 1967 or 1968 Sting Ray. That's my dream car...

Well, I'm just listing my favorite cars over the past 40 yrs that I've been driving.
Yes, I'm an "oldie but goodie" @ 58!

Hey, where are the Studebaker fans? !!!!!!!
        Ok, here goes:

        1. '56 Studebaker Hawk. (first car out of high school. What a classic! Had 125,000 miles on it when I bought it. Ran like a top. I think it was the closest thing to a tank that I've ever driven!)

        2. '62 Studebaker Gran Turismo Hawk. (Wow, black with a ton of chrome & stainless steel. Sharp looking!).

        3. '65 Corvette Sting Ray. (Silver gray convert. What more can I say. I still kick myself for selling it!).

        4. '70 Olds 442. (What a smoker from the era of the muscle cars). What a "looker" in red!

        5. Currently an '03 Acura TL-S. First Japanese car (though American made in Ohio). This is the car I'm trying out all the great waxes and polishes, etc. that I've read about on ShowCarGarage.

Great thread Mosca. Thanks for starting it !
        "Happy Trails to you !"

The story of the first four.

                        1) 65 Pont Bonneville cv (1970 to 1972)

I was 16. This car was truly one of a kind. The guy across the street bought a Pontiac dealership and took this car for himself. It was buttercup yellow with white leather interior and white top with black carpeting, and had every available option. It had the 8-bolt reverse wheels, it had AM/FM with reverb, it had climate control and power vent windows and automatic headlight dimming. My dad traded his '66 Olds 98 for it, and I used my lawnmower and paper route money to get it from him.

I destroyed this car out of ignorance. My dad wasn't (and still isn't) a car guy, so I had to learn everything myself. This car needed brakes every 10000 miles, points twice a year, the choke always stuck, tires wore out quickly, the timing chain jumped its gears (I fixed it myself in the garage with a Chilton manual from the school library)... I remember COMPOUNDING this car, then waxing it with Simoniz! The yellow oxidized very quickly. It finally stopped running in '72 when something went wrong with the head, I never knew what; when I pulled the valve covers, some of the pushrods were bent and the lifters were turned sideways... it was 30 years ago, so I don't remember a lot of details.

                        2) 63 Pont Bonneville cv (summer of 1972)

I bought this car in '72 for $300. It had a leak in the hydraulics for the top, that was a bit problematic. It was metallic forest green with a lot of bondo at the wheel wells. It also had a SD421 with trips, and had been converted from an automatic to... a Ford 3-speed standard. Why? I don't know. That must have been a hot ticket at one time. I remember that it had the outside rear view mirror up on the fender rather than on the door. I learned to drive a standard on this car, by myself with no help. Which meant that no one ever told me "don't ride the clutch". The problem came when I burned out the clutch, and what clutch do you put into a car with a '63 Pontiac engine and a '59 Pontiac bellhousing and a '65 Ford 3 speed trans? I finally got the parts, but no garage would touch it, so I did the job myself, and I never got the car running again. I sold it to a guy with a '63 Grand Prix who wanted the motor. I think I sold it for $100. After that guy put the motor in his Grand Prix his car got stolen and burned.

                        3) '65 Pont GTO ht (1973)

Not as nice as you would think. $275. The interior was maroon, and the body had been repainted Judge orange. It needed rings, a radiator, and had a broken spring. But it was damn fast. I had some issues back then. This car was a bit illegal, with no inspection sticker or registration. I tended to drive it at night rather than during the day. The radiator was split at the top seam, so I would fill it with stop-leak and solder the seam, and that would hold for a few days. The blue smoke out the back would call a lot of attention, too. I decided that I'd never be able to make the car what it should have been, so I sold it to a guy in one of my classes at the Community College and he fixed it up pretty nice actually, he put a black interior in it and turned it into a drag racer.

                        4) '64 Buick LeSabre sw ('73 and '74)

This was the family truckster that my dad gave to me because I went back to college. It had been wrecked a couple times, and had horrible rust at all four rocker panels that I fixed with Saran Wrap, bondo, and spray paint. It also had a 401 4bbl engine and flat out screamed. It had vinyl seats and no AC, and I remember many times in the '60s coming home from the swimming pool with my legs burning from the hot seat! This car ran and ran and ran. I thought it was going to rust away, so when it failed inspection I put it on a corner with "$50" in the window, and sold it to Nick Wytias, who drove it for at least 3 more years after he welded the frame.

HUge Pens fan here, too; I grew up in Pittsburgh, and had season tickets with my Dad and some others until I moved in '87... and a couple years later of course they win the Cup. Here in NEPA we have the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Pens, their top minor league team.
