Crude Oil... now isn't this getting just a little crazy?

Another problem that has contributed to high energy prices, is the lack of refining facilities.

In the past few years, we've seen a lot of mergers in the oil business, and that led to some refineries being shut down in order to improve their operating capital. But it has led to some extra high prices for all of us.

The thing that gets me the most are the people that drive the Ford Excursion to work everyday, by themselves, doing 80+ on the highway.

Here is my philosophy, for what it's worth. I will allways have a daily driver for work that is 1) cheap and 2) gets good gas milage. My current is a Chevy Cavlier that gets 26 MPG on a bad day, over 32 MPG on the highway. I know that it is not the best made, most comfortable, or smoothest ride out there.....but all it has to do is get me to work and back (a total of about 5 hours a week).

I have been checking out the Toyota Tacoma's and I am getting the new car bug.....but even if I decide to get one, I will still drive the Cavalier just to save on the gas and wear and tear on the more expensive car (the Cav. is almost paid off).

I agree with you on that one.

I have an older model Toyota that gets 35 to 40 on the highway, that I drove to work.

I'm in between jobs at the moment, and the car needs repair, but I refuse to sell it due to high gas prices.

35-40 MPG...I wouldn't sell it either. Repairs here and there on a paid for car are better then a car payment

Looking at it from another angle, if they decide to try and reduce emissions then the US government might just start doing what the UK lot ARE doing that is TAX us of the road or into cars that give "here to the moon" MPG and do 0-60 in a fortnight.

Currently here in the UK 75% of EVERY single gallon of fuel is TAX

I agree. NO new refinery has been built in the last 30 years. Plus all the bouitqe fuels for various cities that can not be used elsewhere coupled with 3 grades of gas for each area. It's nuts. Also factor in the eco people who say NO drilling in the Gulf of Mexico or the Pacific coast.

Not sure, but I think they are going to tack on $12,000 per car.

The gas savings would help offset that.

First of all, cars get better economy while also making much more power. Second of all, the average new car is only about $25k. So were cars in 1985 free?

I think it's funny how the price of something spikes a bit (what, should it get cheaper every year until they pay you to take it?) and suddenly everyone knows exactly where the problem lies and what we should have done all along. For those of you who think $2.75 for a gallon of gas will bring the civilized world to its knees, how many car purchases have you made in the past where fuel economy was by far the overriding factor?

Still boils down to the love of the gas guzzling vehicles (demand) has led to the price for gas rising at an out of control rate. If we all took the time to think of the generations that come after us and what we're leaving for them we as a country could change things. In the meantime, I'll just keep driving my fuel sippers and thinking of my kids and grandkids to be......

While you may not agree with what some people have posted on this thread, I think you are being a little overly negative.

I think the point to this thread is that as the prices continue to rise, people have to start budgeting for the increase. For example, a few years ago I was commuting from work to school everyday and my gas bill was around $150 a month (when gas was ~$1.50). Now that same drive would cost me $225 (assuming a moderate price of $2.25 a gallon).

There are some out there though that have started to shift their driving habits (and their choice of cars) to accomodate the economic factors.

Just some food for thought......let's try to keep the thread open to opposing ideas
