  • Guys in gas station parking lot... impressed!

    Hi Folks,

I haven't been around here in a while but I just HAD to come over and post this little story:

Washed and waxed my car about four days ago. All Meguiar's and the awesome job I always do...LOL. Car (garage kept) is still looking pristine today and I went to get some gas. There was a booth set up in the parking lot with a couple of guys selling some all in one product that they claimed was supposed to do your washing, waxing, tires, wheels, trim and windows. And you could do you whole car in like 30 minutes. I told them I was a Meguiar's girl and that it was pretty clean and didn't need their stuff. One of the guys followed me out to my car. I guess he had to see for himself. (He had his product and a couple of rags in tow....)

I'm assuming he was used to going out to someone's nasty car and making a clean spot and then the owner getting all impressed and buying his product. He sprayed some stuff on my mustang (without asking) and was about to have at it with his nasty rag. I freaked and got out a nice Meguiar's rag from the trunk and told him to use that. He wasn't able to make a clean spot because my car was spotless. He seemed frustrated when he said "look at how nice and clean this gets it" and I told him I didn't see much difference. He wanted to show me how it worked on brake dust so he knelt down to my wheels and swiped his finger across my wheel. Nothing! His finger was totally clean. I started laughing. (I couldn't help it) He desperately tried to find something dirty to show off his product. Nothing dirty.

He finally admitted defeat and gave in and said he was impressed with how clean my car was. He didn't ask me (or push me) to buy his product after all that.

Check her out... Daily driver for six years and still looks brand new :-) Thanks Meguiar's!

      Your car looks great!

I agree - there is no way I would have let that guy spray his **** on my car! I can't believe he even had the hide to do that!!

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

Sounds like you had quite a pushy salesman. I can't stand that which is why I live Meguiars. They don't push and are extremely accepting of other products.

If you don't mind me asking, what was the name of this mystery brand. I'm curious. PM me so you don't have to put it on the board.

Your car looks pristine! You showed those guys what Meguiar's is really about.

I can't believe they sprayed your car without asking. I would have freaked out and yelled at him! It's called permission! It's not his car!

I would have asked if he has any children or small pets that I can spray with unknown substances and afterwards wipe with a dirty rag.

He chose the wrong victim - The Mustang was protected by Meguiar's.

                  Nice story.

I had similar experience about a year ago in LA. A guy at a gas station was pushing me Meguiar's aerosol QD for $20 a bottle.

Re: Guys in gas station parking lot... impressed!

I actually had a fairly similar experience at a gas station around the corner from our offices just a few weeks ago. The kid came up, again with this all in one stuff and a really nasty looking rag, and said he was demonstrating this awesome new product. I stopped him in his tracks and told him I work for Meguiar's so, no thanks. He looked at kind of shocked and said "you work for Meguiar's???? You're like the 4th guy today who told me that!" I responded "well, yes, but our offices are just a few hundred yards from here, so..................".

But I felt bad for him because his towel looked like he'd been cleaning brake dust off of German cars for a few days, so I suggested he grab a fresh, clean towel every time he approaches a new vict......er, customer so as not to scare them off. He looked at his rag, shrugged his shoulders as if it weren't all that bad, and walked away.

LOL! I'm quite sure this was taken last week. But except for a few unavoidable rock chips here and there, it pretty much looks like it did when I bought it.

I actually have no idea what product it is. It was in a metal can, rather tall. Aerosol can... not pump spray. Can was white with black and red artwork and lettering. He never said (or I didn't pay attention) to the product name. And I didn't want to show ANY interest at all for fear he might latch onto me and follow me home spray his junk all over my ride. :-O

Yeah, that rag was the most horrifying part of the whole experience. My hubs is getting sick of me talking for the past two days about how he couldn't find any brake dust in my wheels. #feltgreat

Ah, one of those aerosol ones. I've seen videos on YouTube of those. Probably not the same stuff but similar. I always wonder what's really in there *shudder*
