      Re: Live from CES

It was a very early start this morning to ensure the cars in the Ford booth looked good while Ford CEO Alan Mulally was interviewed. So here's yours truly doing what we do, and then getting a personal thank you from Mr. Mulally himself!

More cool cars to be elsewhere at the show though, like this gorgeous '74 Bronco....

....and this trio of classic Camaros.

          Mike,

So now that you've met Alan Mullaly - are you ready to trade in your Mopar's for a Ford...

          Keep the pix coming!

That 2012 Focus is a really nice small car with a very upscale interior, that's for darn sure.

But as a track day car, this one is probably hard to beat:

But again, CES isn't really about cars, it's about electronics and accessories. And there dozens of companies showing covers and accessories for any personal electronic device you can thick of. Need a bling cover for your iPhone?

Do you need a waterproof keyboard, mouse or remote control? These are not only soaking in a container full of water but I'm told they are actually machine washable!

              Re: Live from CES

Alan Mulally was a chief of design team for Boeing 777 in the 90s. After successful lanch of Triple Seven he was transfered to Boeing's Executive Office. Now he runs Ford and I think he doesn't do a bad job at all.

                  Hey Mike,

Could you tell us exactly how you prepped the vehicles?

                  Such as products/process etc.

                  Just curious.

For the most part, Nick, all four vehicles were in very good shape, with the exception of the cut away Explorer. All cars were initially wiped down just to get the light dust off, then they were closely inspected for any isolated issues that needed some correction. The red Focus had a coupe of small scuffs that cleaned up nicely with UC by hand, but that Explorer needed UC via G110v2 on the hood to remove the offending swirls. Unfortunately it has a large chip in the edge of the hood near the a-pillar as well as a very deep scratch near the front of the hood, down to the primer.

After any needed spot corrections the vehicles then received a coat of NXT Tech Wax 2.0 via G110v2. While the wax was drying the interior was given a once over with QID, the glass cleaned inside and out with NXT Glass Cleaner, and tires and trim covered with M40. A tire brush was used to apply the M40 to the tires, allowing for even coverage even into the treads (dressing tires for a show like this means making every visible square inch a nice matte black). Once satisfied that everything was up to snuff, the wax was wiped off and it was on to the next vehicle. Since I'm working this show solo it was important to work quickly and efficiently - each vehicle took about 90 minutes to prep, plus the extra time for the spot work on the Focus and Explorer. Oh, the TransitConnect had a spot on the carpet that QuikOut dealt with in no time!

During the show each vehicle is quickly wiped down every hour or so to remove dust and fingerprints. And that dark blue Explorer is a fingerprint magnet! As a special added touch, just prior to an interview with Mr. Mulally, a highlighted vehicle (primarily the Focus and Explorer) would get a coat of UQW, just for that extra pop!

                      Thanks Mike for the response.

                      All the cars look great.

I like the attention to detail when it comes to dressing the tire tread, very nice.

OK, there's bling, and then there's bling. Don't cut yourself on one of these....

TV isn't the only thing in 3D here - digital printing is on display, too.

The little items you see here were all digitally printed, created by depositing layer upon layer of plastic material in the proper shape to create the solid item. Apparently this is the same sort of plastic used to make Lego and it can even be sanded smooth to further refine the finish.

Blackberry introduced their sweet Playbook tablet.

In need of a manicure and you want something a bit different? The most commonly overheard comment at this booth: "This is at CES because.......?"

Gaming accessories taken to the extreme?

                        Speaking of gaming......it's another celebrity!

No, this not a giant billiards table. These are remote control spheres, driven by an iPhone app. That app includes games from the simple (Pong) to more complex variety. But instead of directing pixels on a screen you move these things around! With your phone!

Audi has an amazing booth that's lit up like a bright summer day! You almost need sunglasses in there so so bright.....and so crowded.

Is this a car full of speakers, or just speakers on wheels?

This is definitely something I need in my house.

Mike - would I be able to wash these with my Soft Buff pads or would you recommend separate loads

This is definitely on my wishlist for 2011

You may have noticed in many of these images that color plays a big role here at CES, and we wanted to continue that theme here for a moment. You find color everywhere here.....

These are iPod docks (also available in black or white)

Don't let the retro look fool you, these are very high end digital microphones.

There is even a color choice in these Gibson guitars.

Bright colors can be found almost anywhere you look here!

Seeing you and Alan M, all I could think of was you thinking: "Sure glad he's no longer head of Boeing. That 787 would take all week."
