I have an old iPod touch, I got it the day it came out. All that time in my pocket really did it's trick to marring up the stainless finish on the back of it.
As i'm sure you all know, stainless is quite a hard metal that only crazy people try to polish by hand.
To polish it I got some 180, 220, 4hundredsomething, 600, and 1500 grit sandpaper. I wanted to attempt to sand them polish out the scratches on the back of my 'pod.
Before starting,

After the 200 grit YIKES!

After 4xx grit

600grit

My CF filled up here do I had to switch to my iphone camera. This was after the 1500grit vertically, horizontally, then crosshatched many times over. Then I went over it with some Stainless steel cleaner.

Here you can see the swirls that are left over, I want to get some 2000grit and heavy RC to see if I can get the minor swirls out. You can only see them in direct light, otherwise its a mirror finnish.
