I have a couple, but they're not bad and they happened early on before I mastered my parking technique.

I typically park 2" away from curb edges and have become skilled at parking in this manner. The rims are stock, easily replaceable, and can be bought for less than $600 for the set.

I balance out that cost with what it would cost me to pop door dings and dents (not to mention repaint, if necessary) over the span of my ownership, and a couple of barely noticeable rim rashes on stock wheels is a fair trade-off, IMO. Besides, a rim rash bothers me way less than a ding or crease in my door panels.

But... if I had custom wheels - definitely a different story.

By the way, your parking place for TNOGs is usually where my ride sits during the day here. Smart choice.
      Insane? Or maybe just...

      I dunno

      Car Crazy?

Hey, I was sane before I discovered Meguiars. This is on you guys!

And yes, that sweet parking spot is one of the best from Irvine to San Diego. Why can't all parking spots be done up like that?

Humorous and entertaining post... because we all do it, in one way or another. I live in a city that has a lot of space, usually our parking lots are only 2/3 full at best (unless it's Christmas shopping season). Usually I can just get away with parking at the far end of the lot. You'll notice that the other vehicles at the far end of the lot are well cared for too.

Again, funny... because it's true. Even funnier that you took the time to document it. Thanks for sharing.

I don't understand people who spend 20 minutes driving around a parking lot trying to get the closest spot.

I usually park the farthest and I'll walk inside the store before they find a closer spot. People are so lazy. I love parking far away too because I get to stare at my car as I return to it. If the walk was short I wouldn't be able to look at it so long!

Only for my Mustang: if I can't find an open [wide] space, it's usually 2-6 spots in the very back of the parking lot depending on how it's all set-up. It has worked well for me for 7 years now.

Other than that, I just park the F150 or the Neon in whatever spot I decide to roll into. I don't make a point of driving around for 30 minutes to find a front spot. I go in, find the next available spot, and usually leave 2 or 3 spots between my car and the next.

My wife thinks I'm nuts for parking where I do at stores. But she's starting to do the same thing. Gotta share this; last week at Wally World, I parked at least 20 spaces from any other vehicle on the other side of a cart corral. Wally was having his lot repaved and they were tearing up the old pavement a good ways away from where I parked. When I came out of the store, one of the LOADED double length dump trucks was parked next to my new truck. I started to panic, walking faster and faster and asking, "why would he do this with the whole lot almost empty at 7:30 am"?? He had parked so close to my truck I had to turn sideways to get to my door. He was getting out of his truck on the passenger side as he could not even get out of his truck through the drivers door. I didn't say anything, just looked at him. Thank goodness, there was no bump on my truck. You gotta wonder about some people!!!

Taking up two spaces is really asking for it. I would never do it and I would never retaliate against someone who does, even though I might be annoyed. I just couldn't bring myself to damaging someone else's car.

I agree. It is a little much taking up to spots.

Clearly, thats exactly the methods I employed here. LOL with the exception of the people here are a little bit "challenged"; the further away you park your car from the dividing line, the more closer they are likely to park to your car. So, if I ought to park like 1'-2" near the curb, then even with a 1'-2' of extra space in between parking lots, they still like to park near to my car, which pisses me off. Bottom line, I got dents on both sides of my car. .

Yeah, I call 'em "herd parkers". These are the people that will find your car, no matter how far you are parked away, and park next to you like herd animals for whatever reason. I guess they find safety in numbers, or maybe they feel sorry for your car being all alone?

Yeah I will park at the position farthest from anyone, and somehow I always get some jerk that will park next to me. Which would be fine but it is often the guy that doesn't care about his car

When you park way off to one side in a spot, make sure to not leave so much room that someone tries to squeeze in next to you and the car you are trying to be far from. I've seen it happen, fortunately not to me.
