  • Car Guy Parking Spaces

A while back, either here or on my Accord forum, someone posted a link to a site dedicated to folks who go out of their way to park their cars in certain parking spaces to best avoid dings, dents, and scratches. For the last few weeks, I kept a photo-journal of my favorite parking spaces at work and about town. Notice the common themes of the spaces I choose:

    • Wide parking stalls
    • Usually parked away from other cars and pedestrian foot traffic
    • The car is usually parked in a way to shield the driver's door first.
    • The car is usually parked against curbs.

I know I'm not the only one on MOL to park like this. I have my favorite spaces, but I also usually have 2-3 back up spaces for each destination.

      You sound like me!

However in one difference, I don't park in reverse and I park with my driver's side door always facing other cars with the passenger facing an unparkable area. The reason for this is because the average car holds 1.5 drivers. This means that anyone parking next to me is likely to get out of their car on the DRIVER's side.

If I park on their passenger's side, I'm less likely to get hit when they open their door.

I havnt seen San Diego that clean. I've been to a lot of Big Lots & Walmarts around town and never have I seen that huge of a parking space lol. I love Accords hope to get a newer one someday. I'm still driving my 4th gen ('93) to LA and back until now though. It saves me a lot of miles and dents too on the newer car .

I've used your philosophy since buying my truck. It's a '99. Not a single door ding!

That's my computer bag leaning against my wheel, not any body panels.

Probably is, but it's a private parking lot and cops will write a parking violation if the owner of the lot requests one. I have been parking there for nearly 2 years without a ticket, and cops have seen the car on several occasions and don't give it a second look. Same thing with the gym parking lot.

If you look at my work parking pic, I included the 2nd photo to show how I "toe the line". The Navy base does have a posted policy to park within the parking space lines. Although many people (sailors) do park over and outside the lines, I have never seen anyone ticketed for it. But I respect the rule because of the posted notice.

Do you have alot of curb rashes on your rims??

You park a little to close to the curbs for my liking

I agree, but I also play the odds. In pictures where you see the car nosed out, it's often because visibility is restricted and it's chancey to back the car out without a clear view of what's happening behind me.

Well, I can't argue with your logic. I park away from others also.

                          Re: Car Guy Parking Spaces

Theres nothing wrong about parking over the line so your car doesn't get hit by another car door. I do that at work and when I'm parking somewhere else I try to park near other nice vehicle's.

John, you are insane my friend, and that is meant in the best possible way!!!

By the way, your parking place for TNOGs is usually where my ride sits during the day here. Smart choice.
