Then you have the fake ones, bought by wannabes and people who think it's going to get them out of a ticket. If I pull someone over with a thin blue line sticker, and they aren't a cop, or a wife/husband of a cop, it's an instant ticket and I peel the sticker off.

Thanks for the info on what that is

Matter of fact I see more police officers breaking the law than others. Remember that next time you flash your lights and your siren just so you can run a red light. Anyways going back to the original question of its legal go ahead and do what you want just don't whine to us when you get a ticket.
It is not the "little badge and uniform" that makes police officers superior to others. It is because they risk there life each and everyday to protect and serve people like YOU. Maybe you have been watching way too many movies. Police running red lights, oh yeah it's so common...not. Perhaps your jealousy of such power is being expressed in your message, because police officers can do as they please because they have more power than all other professions.

TC, I recommend that you do not place anything like that on your vehicle. The only thing that will help you with the police is an FOP Membership on your license plate, but even then, those won't always help you out of a ticket.

Just because they have more power doesn't make it right. NOBODY is above the law, even if they're the ones hired to enforce it!

Re: I dont know if this is legal...?

Wow some folks need to step back and take a deep breath and relax!

The blue line is to recognize officers on the road, as well as a symbol for those who had fallen. Fire has the red line, ems has the white line, military is green and so on....

While it may be "legal" to obtain and display these items, why would you if you do not belong to these professions? I feel that it's the same as donning an officers or service uniform and going out in public is just asking for trouble.

Brian, how do you know that most cops do as they please 'cause they wear a uniform and carry a "little" badge. Don't know many LEOs do you?
Now what if there was a home invasion were you live and your family was in the house when this happened and called 911. That cop that just turned his blinkies and woo woo's to "run" that red light that you saw may just have been going to your house (in case you didn't know...showing up with those blinkies and woo woo's aren't always the best things to do in fragile situations, going incognito to gain the element of surprise on the criminals is pretty crucial on catching them). THINK ABOUT THAT!
Before you bash the LEOs take a step back and realize they deal with the ABSOLUTE worst in humanity! walk in their shoes for a week and tell me if your the same person as before!

Megafast, Cops can't do as they please due to the power of their profession. They're held pretty much to the same code of conduct that service members are held to. Yes you do have bad apples but show me where in ANY profession that doesn't.
For those who fought for it, freedom has a flavor the protected will never know.

Re: I dont kno if this is legal...?

Here is a retired police car that I owned for 15 years. It was painted GM #15 medium gray by a bodyman that I bought it from (same color as many of the ghost cars). Apparently he thought it was fun to pretend to be a cop. I see it all the time. I never pretended I was a cop, but there were a few humorous moments, because of the association.

I personally don't see what the harm is. I would think as an officer it would be flattering that others think your profession is "cool" and want to be like you. Kids grow up playing cops and robbers.

I understand that there is a lot of pride that goes into being a police officer and there should be respect toward officers and the profession. As long is it is not taken seriously, and nobody honestly mistakes a civilian as an officer to the point that there is an issue, I see no real harm.

What could possible happen, people might behave themselves and slow down? I never had any issues, nor did I ever try to create an issue.

This is probably the biggest issue, for starters, to answer the above. That basically would involve trying to trick/deceive LEO's into believing he is a fellow officer to get out of a ticket. That generally isn't "for fun" or to show them how "cool" you think they are.

If that's the case that is moronic (no offense to the OP). I can understand the anger as an officer as well. Should be a heavy fine, if not jail time.

Re: I dont kno if this is legal...?

                      Taken from Wikipedia

The Thin Blue Line emblem is often seen on vehicles—near the rear license plate or rear window—and implies that the operator or owner is either an active or retired Law Enforcement Officer, the relative of one, or a soon to be sworn in officer. Proponents state that the identifier is for notifying other uniformed officers that the occupant of the vehicle may be law enforcement and possibly armed.
Being armed makes cops jumpy, even a friendly off duty cop. Off duty cops can snap too.....

If you want to be favored by the police, obey the law. If you are pulled over for various reasons, take care of the reasons (if you need a front plate, put one on etc!). Don't give them a reason to be noticed. And if you are pulled over, don't act dumb "I didn't know I was going fast!!!" Right.....When I was a kid, I got pulled over and the cop asked me how fast I was going, I told him how fast I was going and he chuckled and wrote me a ticket for lane changes without a signal, drastically less money and not a moving violation at the time. He said thanks for being honest with me, not too many kids do that." I told him no sense in lying about it.

We can have cool cars, great stereo's and what not, just respect the law or do it where you won't get caught .

Personally, I'm much more afraid of the guy who has a "Keep honking, I'm reloading" bumper sticker than I am of someone with a blue line sticker. But then again, I am from TN, loaded guns in cars are a pretty common thing.

As a retired leo, i have to agree with rsr and Colin. If you are not a member of law enforcement or a family member, leave it alone. There are other ways to show your support for Law enforcement.

Re: I dont kno if this is legal...?

I am going to leave it alone. Im srry I ever asked. It was just a simple yes or no answer. Im NOT trying to be a cop...Im 17. I drive a 2008 hatchback thats orange...no police "look-alike"?? The only thing I wanted to kno was if it was "LEGAL"? The Governors Office of Highway Saftey specifically told me that i could "display the plate proudly" on the front of my car...That was it...Not trying to START anything. I AM a family member of an officer and I have respect for officers, just not THE VERY, VERY FEW who try to abuse their power.....end of story.

Thanks for everyones responses to this thread...

It's not whae: I dont kno if this is legal.

I hate to break it to you its not what I see in movies its what I see in every day. I suppose the other day when I was at a local bait store and the cop that leaves his car running while inside buying fishing tackle was protecting our community to. Or while they hang out in a parking lot just talking instead of patrolling. I call and report them all the time I'm sorry o don't like to see my tax dollars being wasted.

I agree. I don't like seeing them park illegally in a fire lane to run into a McDonald's to order food when there are 30 parking spaces open. I would have gotten a ticket if that was me.
