Re: Wraptivo Designer Car Wraps in action!

Would anyone at Meguiar's like to do an "installation and testing" on my 2008 MazdaSpeed3, PLEEEAAASSSEEE??? lol.

I have been waiting for quite some time for Wraptivo's launch, and feel like its on the backburner of Meguiar's to-do list. I understand the tanked-economy is probably causing some of this, but is there no updates on announcement as to when the launch MIGHT likely happen?

Re: Wraptivo Designer Car Wraps in action!

I like the idea. In fact, I want to wrap my car in some areas to prevent rock chip damage, as I had my front repainted and already in less than a year have heavy rock chip damage.

I can see it being perfect for cars with clear coat damage too.

      I only have two suggestions.

      1) Please don't release this under the Meguiar's name. I don't see it being related to Meguiar's at all, it just doesn't feel right. Again, I like it and think it's cool but I don't see it being justified under the Meguiar's logo. As other's mentioned, Meguiar's is about Mirror Bright shine, not flat vinyl.

      2) That being said, why not seal in the shine? I would LOVE a clear type wrap for my front bumper, that I can apply on my own.

Trust us, if you worked here you'd know that Wraptivo is nowhere near the back burner. Heck, we even hired a project manager who does nothing but Wraptivo and he's working diligently to build an installer network, sort through the myriad films available to find what works best in all regards (installation, longevity, maintenance, removability, etc) and that alone is a huge task.

Well, it will be Wraptivo by Meguiar's, not Meguiar's Wraptivo, and the website is wraptivo.com instead of meguiars.com/wraptivo, but we're still the ones driving it. We certainly understand how it might seem strange to cover the paint when Meguiar's is all about the paint itself (and the shinier the better, naturally!) but it really does all tie into the car hobby, which is the bigger picture of what Meguiar's is all about. Remember, you don't have to wrap the entire car and for even partial use it allows you do things faster and more cost effectively than custom paint. Heck, it allows you to do some things that paint alone can't do. Sure, it's not for everyone, but then again what is?

Careful what you ask for! Have you ever tried applying a large film over compound curved surfaces? Just watching it in person it's hard to figure out how they do it sometimes. When you seem them roll a piece out and lay it on the front of, say, that Porsche Cayman you just can't wrap (no pun intended) your head around how it's going work out. You think polishing paint can be challenging? Hah!!!

Cool, thanks for the response. My front bumper especially has extremely complicated curves. I really should just dish out the money for a clear bra but now I need to get it repainted again first

My buddy I showed this to wanted to know why the PT Cruiser only did the roof.

Because that's all I wanted on it - yep, that's my daily driver. I had been toying with the idea of painting the roof to look like brushed stainless steel along the lines of some '50s luxury cars. I was always hesitant though - what if I shelled out the money to do it right and then didn't like the way it looked? Well, now it looks like brushed titanium (it even has texture!) and the coloring is perfect for my car. I couldn't be happier with the way it turned out.

Is there a need to add wax/sealant for protection?

That's one of the things we're testing right now. Obviously for the matte finished films a wax isn't a good idea and for any of the textured films (carbon fiber, brushed titanium) a paste wax would be an exercise in frustration. On the brushed titanium roof of the PT a regular wipe down with UQW is doing wonders for the appearance. And the film beads water like mad even before using UQW so washing and drying are super easy.

Heck, we're even doing some testing on potentially using mild paint cleaners to buff out fine scratches, towel marks, etc.

There was a USA Today article I believe on this a day or two ago.... I guess it is going somewhere.

I suppose that's where my real question is. Small marks that show as discoloration, whether it be bird poo or a simple rub mark from walking by and whacking it with your purse (well, my wife's purse). I've found a mild bug and tar remover works pretty well so far.

As the wrap starts to loose it's hold, 3 years down the road, there will also be quite a few small tears/holes/cracks from wear. These likely will be a frustrating area for wax build-up if it is used. Makes me think for the life of the wrap a regular cleaning product will be the winner over a wax or sealant ... do you agree?
