Griot's DA polisher gets very high reviews on AG's site. Mike Phillips is the guru of detailing and he likes it a lot. With it's lifetime warranty and priced comparably to PC, it's my next choice. I am waiting for some kind of promotion to off set their relatively high shipping cost. I have the new version Griot's 3" polisher and it's indespensable on fender flares, around grills, etc. As far as posting information about a competitor on another forum, I have no problem with it. All of these companies have good products. I use a lot of Meguiars products which I got from Proper Auto Care when it was 25% off on gallons. Megs APC+, Degreaser, and Last Touch Detailer are some of the best. All that said, it's ok to pass on good deals to help someone save a $. There is one forum that will ban you for life if you try to promote any product they don't sell. Just my opinion, but that ain't right!!

I use a lot of Meguiars products which I got from Proper Auto Care when it was 25% off on gallons. Megs APC+, Degreaser, and Last Touch Detailer are some of the best. This is Meguiars's forum, they pay the bills here and its not right to post deals on products that are considered the competition. It does not even have to do with the quality of the product.

You dont go on a Ford forum and post a good deal on buying a new Chevy, right?

I think this kind of call and post should be made by a moderator.

The deal is not a competitor's product but a particular vendor and all their products, many of which are not corollaries of anything Meguiars sells.

Are we going to quit mentioning ADS and their sales because they sell Collinite, Mezerma, Buff and Shine, Lake Country, etc.?

Well, we don't have any rule that would prohibit a post like this, but we do have rules regarding people trying to push or sell products on MOL.

That said, I don't think that was the intent here, but I also don't think the ADS example is an apples to apples example - ADS sells mostly Meguiar's products, where as Griot's sells no Meguiar's products.

Is it against the rules to post a sale to other brands? No.

Is it borderline in bad taste? That's a call we allow the freedom for our users to decide

+1 and why I love this forum. It may be owned by Meguiars, there isn't a gestapo mentality of "Meguiars Only".

Not to mention, detailing supplies is just a small part of Griot's inventory.

I think it is absolutely apples to apples, because Griots sells a whole ton of detailing gadgets and other items of interest to detailers and car enthusiasts that do not compete in any way with Meguiars. ADS sells a lot of products that don't compete with Meguiars, namely, Meguiars products.

So if either vendor had a special of 25% off their entire stock, one could use that sale to buy items that compete with Meguiars or items that don't.

It sounds like many people in this forum don't understand what Griots is and can't get past the fact that they sell a DA, which in my opinion doesn't compete that well with the G110v2 because you can't change the backing plate.

So I would rather you just delete this whole thread. The sale will be over in 2 days anyway.

Meguiar's makes a wide variety of detailing products, as you all know, but the only "accessories" we currently offer are various towels and pads. You guys all use other tools and accessories when detailing, organizing your garage (Griot's has some really cool stuff in that area) or even the trunk of your car.

If someone finds a deal on these things and there just so happens to be competitive products to our own line up in the mix, so be it. We're perfectly fine with this sort of thing. Heck, we're even OK if someone says they like Brand X's product Y over one of our own products. We know that neither we nor anyone else is going to be all things to all people. We're really OK with that.

What we don't like and won't tolerate is bashing of any kind, whether that bashing is directed at us, one of you guys, or a competitor.

Thanks for the affirmative comments. By my original statement supporting another brand polisher and deals on other than Meguiar's products, I felt Meguiar's was comfortable enough with their own products that they would not have a problem with it. It just show's they take the high road!!!

It sounds like many people in this forum don't understand what Griots is and can't get past the fact that they sell a DA, which in my opinion doesn't compete that well with the G110v2 because you can't change the backing plate.

Many people are switching out the 6" backing plate it comes with to a 5" so they can use 5.5" pads.

Correct. You can change the backing plate on their newer 6" polisher. It was the Old Griots 6" polisher that you could not change the backing plate on.

Yes, but there is no reason to as the 3" Random Orbital is smaller and is better suited (and from a function stand point) to accommodate 3" pads (or 4" if you desire). Out of curiosity I put the 5" DA backing plate on it and it fit.
