      Re: Home Gaming Systems

I have both the Wii and the PS3. The only thing I like about the Wii is the hand control. The graphics are absolutely gross. I read that the PS3 will have a motion sensitive control released in the next few months which I will buy instantly.

The PS3 has excellent games available with lifelike graphics and very fast graphic action. It supports HD 1080P resolution and can play BlueRay movies. The Wii looks like junk on a large screen, IMO. PS3 on a 60" screen is like real life gaming.

Take a run over to IGN.com and view the game lists for each platform and look at a few of the trailers to get an idea of what the graphics will look like on each.

Thanks, guys. Sounds like the best performing unit is the PS3, then XBox, then Wii. Wii sounds better for family fun, while the PS3 sounds best for graphics and overall performance, and finally, XBox for online stuff. I will make a choice between the Wii and the PS3. Thanks again!

As for the Wii, I have one and it's fun. There is a rumor of the Wii HD coming out early 2011. But for $200 the current one is plenty of fun.

I also have the PS3. I love it. The Blu-ray capabilities are worth it alone. I have had no problems with my PS3 and I bought it when they first came out Christmas of 2006. Plus, for $300 how can you beat that?

            Re: Home Gaming Systems

We have a Wii and an XBox 360 - I play the hell out of the 360, the wii hasn't really been touched in about 4 months or so.

Tiger Woods on the Wii is INCREDIBLE - if you play on the hardest setting, it's just like going out and playing a round - my real-world swing problems show up in the game and I turn into a shankapotamus.

But I do love me some FPS on the XB360.

            PS3:
Pros: Blu-Ray, Killer graphics, Gran Turismo 5 (yeah right), PRICE - at $299, it's a slightly expensive Blu-Ray player that also plays games.
Cons: Somewhat limited game selection, no vibration functions, very little online play available

            XB360:
Pros: Online experience, Netflix right to the system, DVD player built in, huge hard drives available for home media center use, ENORMOUS game selection
Cons: Can be confusing for new gamers - there are 17 buttons and two sticks on the controller (not all of which are used all the time), "online interactions not rated by the ESRB", addictive

            Wii:
Pros: User interface is fun and novel, kid/family friendly, you can get the news/weather/etc on your Wii home screen if you choose (can do with the 360 too though), looks very Apple-Chic on your shelf especially with light-up aftermarket goodies, Motion-Sensing interface is great for sports games and shooters, but that's about it
Cons: (Big one here)Two-generation old graphics look like **** these days (Nintendo 64, anybody?), limited online multiplayer abilities, Motion-Sensing exclusivity's days are numbered with similar interfaces for the 360 and PS3 coming out soon, CAN'T PLAY DVD'S (what the hell, Nintendo?), expensive accessories (wii fit board)

The PS3 is great now that the price has dropped - I'll probably be picking one up soon in anticipation of GT5, and I'll finally be able to play Blu-Rays (Planet Earth FTW)
The XBox 360 has always been great - three different configurations let you pick the one that suits you most, and there is a great variety of games available - everything from Driving sims like Forza Motorsport (awesome with the Wheel and Pedals), to the Halo franchise, down to LEGO Indiana Jones/Kung Fu Panda (included), up to horror/survival games like Resident Evil. There's a HUGE Used game market too, I picked up Halo 3 for $30, MSRP is $60.
The Wii has a fun and novel user interface, but that's pretty much where my liking it ends. The Graphics are pitiful for 2009, especially when compared with the PS3 and XB360, but the family-friendly approach has its appeal. There have been quite a few nights when my family has all gathered 'round the Wii to play Mario Kart whilst inebriated and good wholesome family fun has ensued.

My Pick? The 360, followed by the PS3, with the Wii bringing up the rear.

Correction Justin A - the PS3 does have vibration functions via the Dual Shock 3 controller. Just an FYI

I've got something else that makes for good vibes too, but this is a family forum .

I actually didn't know that they brought back the vibration function, I just remember from when the PS3 was released that the lack of controller vibration was used alot by the other two systems to drum up sales.

I stand corrected, and will now go back to remove the misinformation from my post.

Edit: but I can't go back and fix it...since when do we have a time limit on post editing?

This is getting into a PS3 VS WII VS XBOX 360 discussion, sigh.

I have only owned a ps3 but have played all 3 consoles.

I think Wii is the best for family fun ,

for personal fun Xbox or Ps3 both do the job.

                                Re: Home Gaming Systems

I like them all, but I have grown up playing PS.

As for the vibration function, when the PS3 came out it did not have the vibration which p*ssed people off. It was a huge selling feature. But they came out with the Dual Shock 3 controller just recently within the past year. I still have not bought it. I have a hard time justifying a new controller for $50 or $60 when mine works perfectly fine.

I hate when it turns into a console war discussion. Each have their own great features. It's really up to the purchaser as to what feature they are going to utilize.

I ultimately chose the PS3 for the Bluray player.
