I've come to a cross-roads with my current vehicle. Down one road, I see myself keeping my 2001 King Ranch Edition F-150 SuperCrew for a long time. The other road leads directly to my dealership where there's a 2005 King Ranch F-150 (new body style - new interior) with my name on it.
Now, I know some of you aren't 'truck' fanatics but, I've been one for a long time and don't really plan on changing. What you need to know is that my truck isn't really treated like a truck. It's more of an everyday driver garage queen. For example, my 2wd King Ranch has only seen three or four gravel roads in the three years I've had it.
The catch is that the new truck is black and, while I love black, I know the pain that many of you speak of when it comes to maintaining an everyday driver of the black paint variety.
With that in mind, am I simply walking up to the edge of making myself miserable because I'm such a stickler for keeping the paint perfect or, am I missing a huge opportunity to REALLY show off with a stellar Meguiar's finish?
It seems that everyone I've ever talked to says the same thing. It typically goes something to the effect of:
So, let's hear some opinions. My Chestnut Brown (metallic maroon) isn't cake to take care of but, I've got it in very good, very manageable shape (so much so that the dealership where I'm trading offered me a couple of side detailing jobs for friends and family). I've done my math homework and my payments are in the same ballpark and, with a Ford 'Z-Plan' pin number at my disposal and burning a hole in my pocket, it's a tough deal to walk away from honestly.
Black or not?

Black paint sure is pretty when it's clean but, I swear I'll never buy a black vehicle for my own use...
