I saw bits & pieces of it, and I agree, it is one of the saddest movies I've ever come across.

A now deceased member of our church helped to liberate the Dachau concentration camp, and he told me of stepping into knee-deep white grease near the cremation site.

    Nuff' said.

These two immediately come to mind for me:

    Dr Zhivago
    Glory

Every advertisement says "The Family Stone" is a great family comedy. The fiance's mom made us watch it.

Good movie, but I dont know where the comedy was?

    Tokyo Sonata.

It is not as sad as it is depressing. As in most typical postmodern storytellings, the protagonists in Tokyo Sonata eventually redeem themselves in the worst of situations.

Kind of off topic here. In the aforementioned movie, one character is enlisted into the US Army as a Japanese Citizen to fight in Iraq. Does such conscription exist?

I second the vote for Marley and Me and for Saving Private Ryan. I like how he whispered "Earn this..." and how they tie it at the end.......

AgP...you come up with some questions.

Saddest movie.... . .Not sure, but I thought the end of 'One flew over the cuckoo's nest' was sad. The book is pretty sad a lot of the way through.
