I have hired many talented individuals in the past. The company I worked for offered very competitive pension packages and incentives (stock options, stock grants, etc) for its employees. Whenever our company sees a high-calibre employee leaving for other greater opportunities, we hang our heads in shame.
I wonder if Meguiar's has tried to convince Phillips to stay. I am just saying. I am not criticizing about Meguiar's employee incentives.

I say this with the utmost respect to Mike Phillips, but I'm sure Meguiars has plenty of talented detailers in their midst or at their disposal. Furthermore, lets put things in perspective...it's not like it is akin to Johns Hopkins losing their top Neuro-Surgeon.

the_invisible,
I've read your post more than than 5 times now and it reads to me like you're saying Meguiar's should hang their head in shame because Mike Phillips accepted another job offer.
Is that correct or am I misinterpreting your point?

Yah know, regardless of where a person decides to work, it boils down to the individual who is making the decision of leaving one company to join another. It could be salary, schedules, distance, or even personal reasons.
But from what I have seen, Mike Pennington dedicating an entire thread to saying goodbye to Mike Phillips and wishing him luck shows that Mike Phillips left in good terms and that's good enough for me.

Mikejl,
Absolutely not. Meguiar's should not hang their heads in shame. My point was that I simply could not comprehend how Meguiar's could let Mike Phillips leave, or what Autogeek has to offer compared to Meguiar's that makes it an ideal company to work for compared to Meguiar's. Let's just say, after all that Mike has contributed to MOL, I am surprised to learn that Mike's opportunity is not within Meguiar's. Of course, personal preferences do play a major role when it comes to a shift in career. I am not going to speculate. Whether Mike Phillips left Meguiar's in good terms, only the involved parties would know.
Now as an employee of Autogeek, Mike has a lot more products to advocate for. With his skills and knowledge, and now working for a company selling many premium brand products, Mike Phillips might pose a threat to Meguiar's.
I don't know. I feel like I am writing a risk-analysis report here... I better stop now.

Maybe the situation isn't as complex as you're thinking lol
Afterall, Mike P. is just another car guy. And with his knowledge of Meguiar's products, if anything, he's helping Meguiar's by educating any consumers buying Meguiar's products from Autogeek.
Nothing's worse than for a customer to call and get incorrect information. At least with Mike P. we know anybody with questions concerning Meguiar's products will get the right information.

Also, with so many diverse products and brands, Autogeek probably has a bigger audience than Meguiar's alone. This way, Mike will be able to tell lots more people about Meguiar's.

Yep you never know, he will be introduced to and will test out many non-Meguiars products (they will probably have open garage's out there soon, which will help sell and introduce many products that AG carries) and a bunch of different things he might of not tried out because he mainly used and worked with Megs and their products. Whether he left on good/bad terms isn't any of our biz. Either way, I wish both Meguiar's and Mr. Phillips the best in the present and future, and I hope both parties are happy. That's the bottom line..

Will Autogeek really have an open garage soon??
If that's true, then it makes perfect sense. Mike Phillips' charisma on the camera and his people skills make him an ideal candidate. Skilled detailers are a dime a dozen, but people that know how to market and sell products are not!!!
Frankly though, loyalty to a company ends with the pay check.
Keep in mind guys, competition is good. The main reason why Meguiar's is so good is because the competition is keeping up well.

That's the bottom line with me.....
With Mike Stoops taking the helm of MOL, rest assured we will be just fine.
AG will benefit with Mike Phillips joining them, they may let him spread his wings and do other things as well, who knows.
What I know, is that now I have 2 different detailing forums to watch on top of Mafia Wars and Farm Town! LOL.
Either way it's a win win, I look forward to M.S.'s direction with MOL. AND, Meguiar's will benefit with Mike at AG, sales will go up with them as Mike teaches them about Meguiar's products.
