  • Removing wax with over-concentrated solution

Over the weekend I tried out some Chemical Guy's Citrus Wash and Clear to remove all previous wax on my truck without having to use a non-car wash soap like dawn.

While using it at first, I thought it wasn't working. I finished washing and began my final rinse by sheeting the water off, which really started to frustrate me because it was sheeting that well at all. I then realized that it was because of lack of wax on my truck. Well after drying I looked at my tailgate handle and it was full of white wax all over it. Looks like I was too lazy one day to take it off and just kept it covered up with GC trim detailer. The CG citrus wash obviously removed not only wax, but extra trim dressing as well.

Overall, I was very impressed with this product. What I am wondering though is, say I use a Meguiar's Car Wash like GC or NXT and mix it 2 ounces to 1 gallon, will it strip the wax and still be safe to use, just as CG citrus wash did?

A few side notes: I used a pencil eraser to remove the wax on the tailgate handle and it worked great. I'll get the pics up later.

I also tried out CG Jet Seal and CG 5050 on top of it. To be honest, I cannot tell any difference between the two and M26 on top of M21. It could be that my paint isn't the best to do a comparison on due to color (charcoal, which is hard to even see dirt on). I'll have to test it out on a few different colors, with and without fleck in the paint to see what it looks like. As for my personal vehicle, not worth the extra money, but it could potentially look better on other colors

I once put swirls in my paint just to see what it looked like.

    I don't always detail cars, but when I do, I prefer Meguiar's.

Over concentrated or not, a car wash shouldn't remove wax unless it is designed to do that in the first place? It would normally only make it harder to wash all of the soap off? I know you can use some APC mixed in or sprayed on...

Since CG citrus wash and clear is made to strip wax or any heavy grime, I guess I'll stick with it for these scenarios rather than just mixing a stronger dilution of a Megs Wash.

If you are looking to remove some tough grime from your car wash, I figure that a small capful of Chemical Guy's Citrus Cleaner added to your car wash soap wouldn't do harm. Yes, you will strip some wax adding some strong cleaner to your car wash soap, but that is a good trade off if you have some tough grime and grease to clean off your car. Some people add a dab of dawn to their car wash soap when their car is very dirty.

When you face some really tough grime, stripping some wax is inevitible. Using a strong cleaner is better than scrubbing the tough grime with your mitt, risking scratches.

Grime isn't what I was getting at, but more of just stripping wax. It is the whole addition of dish washing soap that I want to stay away from, or even some APC. That is why I bought CG wash, to have an actual car wash that strips wax and is safe. I was just wondering if it could be done with over-concentration of Megs carwash, but it sounds like it won't.

I Almost think over concentrated solution can remove wax but I'd like to see what a chemist would have to say about this.

My brother had a coat of NXT 2 on his truck that lasted way less than a month. Could have been under dilution, or a number of bad washing habits.

I doupt it would strip off wax in one wash like dawn or CG. So i wouldn't resort to the 'glug glug' just yet.
