  • I made Meguiars a couple bucks

I was at wal mart the other day in the detail aisle, and this guy was looking at (not gonna say the brand) $3.50 green can of wax.he looked a little confused, and just started talking to him and he had no clue, and he didnt want to spend much, but spent 10 times what that can of wax cost.he left with a clay kit,and NXT 2.0.told him they would be worth every penny, and worth the work.

Way to go! I've done that a few times with car shampoo by converting people to gold class!

I once put swirls in my paint just to see what it looked like.

    I don't always detail cars, but when I do, I prefer Meguiar's.
    Remove swirls my friends.

Spence, be sure to write Meguiar's and ask for the appropriate commission.

Re: I made Meguiars a couple bucks

This one time I was at walmart, I hear a couple of guys talking looking at some products. He keeps telling his friend, "Oh yeah this stuff right here is the good stuff (pointing at TW ICE) Don't bother with that meguiar's stuff, it's garbage."

I shake my head and grab some UQD right in front of them.

It must be a marketing thing by TW, or some people really just don't use Meguiar's products as directed and not get the good results.

That reminds me of the time I walked into an auto parts store to see what they carried for Mirror Glaze products, and all they had were #7 and #26. So I asked one of the employees if they had anything else in the Mirror Glaze line, and he's like, "No, but we do have a bunch of Turtle Wax Ice products over here. They've been selling like crazy" as if he expected me to get all excited. I just gave him this look like "you poor man", said, "Thank you have a nice day", turned and walked out. As if I'm going to settle for less than the best. I don't think so!

That's exactly what it is. There are TW infomercials all over the place on Speed and Spike, and people think that every spray detailer is supposed to clean like a real wash, remove swirls, and leave the protection behind of 100% carnauba.

I just made an attempt to educate the people over at lxforums.com on this EXACT subject - someone wanted to know the difference between ICE and Quik Detailer. Someone complained that QD didn't increase gloss or "slickness" at all. Give me a break.

I was at a local shop that sells Mirror Glaze products the other day and did the same thing as the OP. A misinformed salesman (thinks that M6 is THE best wax ever) was trying to help an older gentleman choose a wax, and was about to sell him some $4 mother's spray-on. I convinced him to buy NXT 2.0 by taking him out into the parking lot and showing him my car .

              Amen to that.

Sometimes, people just need to see the difference between a "clean car" and a "Car Crazy" one.

I was on AM 1170 radio 3 times over the course of a couple hours yesterday, and rest assured, I made Meguiar's a few bucks too

Every time I get asked about how I get my car so shiney or what products I used, I suggest Meguiars. Or on Car websites, I only suggest the best.

It is the same here. Whenever some one asks about our cars, I just tell them to use Meguiars. Learn the proper technique and the results speak for themselves.

Re: I made Meguiars a couple bucks

I shamelessly plug Meguiar's when I'm at a car show or working on my car and get compliments on its cleanliness or shininess. Even when fellow classic car owners go on and on about Turtle Wax Ice and other products, I just open my trunk and point to the Meguiar's logo on my QD and QID bottles. I've probably made Meguiar's a fortune, I think they should send me a free bottle of NXT or Supreme Shine MF or something.

Ciera, while I personally haven't ever used turtle wax, nor am I a supporter of tw, you may want to lay off a little.

There are a lot of misinformed people out there who don't know any better. I'm sure that you have fallen victim to great marketing as well. Don't look down upon tw users, because most probably don't know what you know about car care. You should let those people know what you do know and show them how great Meguiar's products are and how they are reputable and solid.

You also don't want other tw users to stop by here and see comments like that as it could offend them, just keep it friendly , no need to bash.

I once put swirls in my paint just to see what it looked like.

Guys, I hope you are aware that if Turtle Wax's lawyers find slander statements on its competition site/forum such as MOL, they could sue Meguiar's for libel and slander.

In the past, even neutral statements backed by scientific and empirical facts, followed by a disclaimer, brought companies legal troubles from their competition.
