  • Buying new tires, which brand?

Im gonna buy new tires for my truck tomorrow, for the truck owners out there, which do you like the best?

I wanna get bigger size tires to fill it out a little better. I dont want to spend more than 700 bucks.

What tires take well to dressing too?

Procomp xtreme a/t are some of the best all terrain tires around. i love mine. They also have a long tread life.

Good mud tires are the toyo open country m/t.

I once put swirls in my paint just to see what it looked like.

      I don't always detail cars, but when I do, I prefer Meguiar's.
      Remove swirls my friends.

I love how you slip in what wheel works well with dressing. I agree with Andrew

          Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor!!!

They are the quietest A/T tires out there. I've wheeled with guys with mud tires and all sorts of all terrains and I can do everything they can. Tread life is great and they look cool too.

When it comes to workhorse truck tires, I think Goodyear Wrangler is a good choice.

My brother has a set of Bridgestone Dueler HT all-terrain tires on his 2002 4-door Explorer and has 40,000 miles on them. The amazing part? Honest to God if you saw those tires you would think he only had 5,000 miles on them.

I can't get over how well they last. They look pretty good, too.

Other than those, I always loved the BFG All-terrain TA, but they can be pricey.

Re: Buying new tires, which brand?

I have the ProComp All Terrain tires. Been on my truck now for about 10K miles and have hardly shown any wear at all. I actually use the A/T design though, along with the "D" load rating. It should depend on where you drive the truck the most, as far as getting the best life out of the tire. I laugh when I see these trucks in the city lifted 10" and have 37" tires on them...and the undersides are cleaner than my Mustang! If you aren't looking for tire life though and can afford to replace those expensive tires every year, I guess why not?

My father needed new tires recently, and wanted an A/T because of the look. Ended up being able to talk him into a H/T All Terrain tire (less aggressive tread design, but can still endure the off-road conditions that it sees). He has been nothing but pleased with them.

As for the sizing, if you aren't buying a new wheel, go with plus zero sizing. Bump up in size, but shouldn't really affect MPGs or the speedo by any real recognizable amount.

                Tires listed by no category:
Pro Comp A/T - severe Weather rated.
BFGoodrich A/T - had these before. Liked them a lot.
BFGoodrich Rugged Trail - same category as my father's tire I believe. These IIRC are pretty good.
Bridgestone Dueler Revo II - I only hear great things about these A/T tires.
Toyo Open Country - any of them, just pick the tread design for what you need.

Re: Buying new tires, which brand?

Just another thought...I had the Bridgestone Dueler Revo II's before the Wrangler Silent Armors and the Bridgestones were put to shame compared to the Silent Armors.

The Bridgestones are a lot louder, wear more quickly and aren't very good off the pavement.

I don't know what your looking to do with your truck and where you drive it, so it's hard to recommend a tire.

Re: Buying new tires, which brand?

I have Toyo Open Country A/T's and they have worn great, I have almost 60,000 miles on the tires and they look only 1/3-1/2 worn and take well to dressings.

I also had Bridestone Dueler AT/Revo's which cleaned easily and took to dressing quite nicely.

I have been looking over the Tirerack.com site and look at the reviews on the tires. Cheap and I have several people I know who have Walmart put the tires on for less than 10 bucks a tire so your savings are great and walmart has lifetime rotation from I'm hearing from everyone......

I usually drive it just around town and on construction sites occassionally where light dirt and mud are present.

I still have the tires that came with the truck back from 2007, They are General Ameritrac. I have only 18,000 miles on thi truck and they are wearing very quickly IMO. The other thing I hate is these tires make the truck look small and just dont fill out the wells quite right.

Just looking for something aggressive looking, maybe even make the truck higher up a little.

I dont know, maybe I am too picky.

Not at all! It took me 3 months to find a wheel and tire combo for my F150, and almost a year for my Focus. No joke.

For your use having a serious off-road tire doesn't seem to be the best choice, but rather a solid, reliable, and long-lasting tire that still has an aggressive look to it.

Here are the tread patterns of the ones I suggested, both of which are notorious for lasting a long time and being quiet.

The Pro Comp Xtreme A/T are probably one of the most aggressive looking all terrain tires that there are and they perform great too. Not very loud at all for how rugged they look.

Another plus is that they have a 40,000 mile guarantee on them.
