Just received one of my credit card bills today. The bill indicates that in the past 30 days I have spent over $300 on backing plates and pads. Another bill is on its way for another $100 for more pads and backing plates. That's absurd, and I am feeling queasy for the amount of money I have spent on basically non-crucial items. I guess when I was seriously buffing a car, I got really sick of pads gumming and loading up. Now that I have stopped buffing my cars for a week, I kind of don't see the pads as necessary. But during the buffing session, you tend to wish you had more pads at your disposal.


After around $400 spent on pads and plates, I am utterly shocked at the fact that I am still without a rotary!!! I will be cashing out my Rona Gift Cards through Air Miles to get a Makita.

You know you're car crazy when you finished writing a 20 page paper on "how to use a random orbital", it took you a long time to write it, you finished it a year ago, and then you don't release it because it needs some "fine tuning", so then you write an additional 25 pages, and those pages don't match the original 20 pages, so you have to "fine tune" those, too!

And then you have to "fine tune" the diagrams, and some of those could be better, and "Oh yeah, that's another subject that NEEDS to be discussed", and on and on.

And THEN! You have to stop writing the paper RIGHT NOW so you can chime in on a topic like this!!!

All I can say is, I wish it would be done ASAP so we could buy a copy of your work, read it, and have good topics (for those frequent dead air moments) during dinner table conversations with other car crazy people.

While reviewing some old threads, I found this:

Right now, I am putting the finishing touches on a one-page paper I wrote describing how to get the best results when applying M105 and M86, as applied with a random-orbital and a foam pad. The thing is, it ended up being about 10 pages long by the time I wrapped it up! Well, okay- It became 23 pages long. But, I took a lot of the stuff out, so I'll be posting that separately (or who knows- maybe I'll just throw it on the end of the paper).

It felt like not too along since you started.

When you have 10+ containers of the same wax. When you have three containers of the same paste wax: one for foam applicator, one for hand application (with the palm!) and one for the DA!
