Re: Catching flack for keeping a clean car.

I don't know about you guys but I get nothing but **** for keeping a clean car
We loved teasing Dad about cleaning his car, my car, my brother's car, basically anyone's car he could get his hands on. He accepted it with good grace and good humour. It was who he was.

Now, Dad is gone, and we fondly remember those things - including saying "You'll rub the paint off" and so on when we get together. It may have even been part of the eulogy. A lovely way to remember him ... and to be remembered.

Seriously, guys, these comments are not to be taken literally. Rather, take it as a bit of friendly ribbing. Or a way of making conversation. Very neighbourly I say.

In Australia, we have to explain to visitors that if people are having such 'fun' with you, it means they like you. If they didn't like you, they wouldn't bother.

And parking 30ft further out in parking lots to keep my brand new car dent free.
A great idea for so many reasons - not just to protect your car. Also protects your heart (exercise).

Another tip - which my Dad and I named after my sister - park next to a pole (cement pillar in carpark or some such) as people only have a 50% chance of hitting your car.

Have a great day all ... and keep on cleaning with pride!!!

I try and do that or park one side next to a curb on the end of the row.

I used to give my ex a hard time because she would absolutely freak out if she got a small stain on her $30 shirt. But she didn't care one bit when her $40,000 cat got tagged by a large door ding, stains all in the interior, and just an all around mess.

A $40,000 cat?! Wow, that must be some cat. What does it do, sing, dance?

I'd agree with this. I had someone intentionally ding my door for doing this...even though I was way out in the back. It was very dark and I couldn't see the ding until the next day. I look back at it now and by taking up two spots it is kind of like saying you are special or something and I can see how it can rub someone the wrong way.

I'd agree with that. That kind of irks me when I'm trying to find a parking spot someplace and somebody is taking up 2 parking spots. When I'm parking, I just try to park by cleaner cars in the parking lot, rather than next to beaters.

I clean my car before I get in it, and once in a while after I get out of it if the drive was long. But I don't clean the rims, or the front of the side skirts, rear bumper, and front doors since those get dirty way to easily.

There have been times where I've been tempted to ding someone's door for taking up two spaces, especially if parking's tight, but my moral principles always overcome my momentary jerk persona and I let it go - but not all people are bound by principles, and this is where double parking will get you in trouble.

I'm glad someone finally made a topic about this

My neighbors always make comments to me as well. I know they are just trying to make conversation and have no idea what they are talking about lol

I park my lexus as far out in the parking lot as I can.

But don't park angled or in 2 spaces...That makes people mad and they often will damage your car if you do that...I see corvettes and mustangs do it all the time.

I wash my cars once a week and QD them everyday.

I don't get a break at work, but I have pulled my car over to QD it on the side of a street before arriving at a BBQ. One of my co-workers saw me doing it and began making "clever" comments about from her car at a red light.

I quadruple park sometimes, but it is out of the way where no one else is parking. Never had/have a problem double parking either.

I'm glad to see that there are others that have this problem. I get comments from my neighbors and my coworkers. If I have not had a chance to wash my car they ask if there is something wrong witrh me or the car.(Sigh) I can't keep everyone happy.

Do you all also keep constant tabs on the weather for a good time to wash? I do. If I see a good sunny 4 day streak coming I try to get the car looking good.
