      Re: Why do you Detail?

ive always been the one stuck having to clean my cousins/parents cars as a kid for mcdonalds or to get taken to the movies. it grew to having attention to detail rather than just a car wash, but until recently within the last 6 months or so, i went to wax my truck and the hood felt rough. so i was kinda bummed. then realized i had a claybar from years ago that i baught for my civic but never used EVER. i think laziness kicked in when i baught it.

read directions tried it on my hood and viola! smoothness. i was hooked, i made my gf leave our apt to meet me at my parents where i was washing my truck to make her feel the smoothness. after that i was hooked. and im at where i am because of it.

i detail friends/family cars on the side for extra cash and im hooked. i used to ride my motorcycle as therapy before i sold it, now detailing something is what keeps me sane. almost how i need to smoke cigarettes cause im addicted, i constantly have that urge to shine something up... now all my money goes to smokes and cleaning stuff..

the more i read the worste it gets!!! Thanks MOL for getting me addicted .... in a good way!

Bingo! Although it is becoming "me and my son" time, which is great as well.

I've got a horrendous new job and often the thought of weekend detailing gets me through the work day.

            Re: Why do you Detail?

basically, my dad has always been a car guy, used to have a 1939 Chevy Coupe custom street rod, and a 1954 IH truck, neither of them stock, he never seemed to really take care of them much, just drove them and put fuel in them, when i turned 12 or 13 i started to take over the maintenance side. I had always been into vehicles as well and i started changing oil on them, washing them, waxing them etc. Ever since then thats what ive done with basically all the vehicles in my household. My dad has gotten SO lazy with his current truck, that he ONLY washes it in the winter when its turned from red to white with road salt/calcium chloride, and same goes for my mom. My dad NEVER takes his truck in to get serviced because hes so cheap. Never has oil changes done on it, ot any fluid/filter changes, or tune ups or anything. My mom is nearly as bad as well as my sister.

None of them touch any part of the vehicle except for the interior, and thats only driving/riding in them. Im the one that gets stuck changing oil in them, washing them, basically doing all the maintanace/upkeep on them.

Eever since then, i knew i could better finish the paint then just doing a wash and wax so I went to Autopia then here and now here I am...saving up for a DA and some compounds/polished and anything else!

              Re: Why do you Detail?

I find that not only does the car look fantastic at the end, but the whole time I didn't really think about anything. I use it to clear my mind from the daily hustle. Plus the before and after thing is pretty cool! And am I the only one who thinks a car drives better when it's clean?

It started out as a competition with one of the guy's I used to work with! We would see who's car or truck was cleaner. I think mine usually was!! LOL
