    Re: Tough day at dealership...

I feel your pain. Two months ago, I took my car into a paint and body shop for bumper cover repair. I specifically requested no complimentary wash. When I went back to pick up my car a few days later, I witnessed a shop gofer furiously wiping down my car with a dry, dirty chamois. Worse than swirl city. Try severe scratch city. The service manager suddenly remembered my request and said "Oh yeah, you didn't want a wash, did you?"

I replied, "What wash? It looks like your guy decided to rub shop dust off my car with a chamois." I start pointing out horrifying scratches all over the car, especially on the hood. The service manager calls over the gofer who rubbed my car down and asked him how he washed my car. The guy relies, "Oh, I just gave it a dry wash. I ran a wet cloth over it and dried it with a chamois" For cryin-out-loud, it's a PAINT and body shop!!! If anyone should know how to treat paint, you figure it would be them!

So I had my car professionally detailed (high speed polished) to repair the damage. Insurance covered most of it under a comprehensive claim, and the paint and body shop paid my deductible. But what else can you do? Tape a reminder note to the inside of the windshield? But the upshot was I found a great community of car geeks on MOL while researching how to have the damaged repaired, and now I have a keen interest in keeping my car looking like this:

EDIT: I had posted a before and after pic but removed them. Didn't want to hijack the thread.

Yeah it really was a bummer... The serviceman did not know that they started washing either, and I never told HIM that I did not want it washed. The guy who tags and id's the car usually puts up a no-wash note, but said they will not be washing today so no worries. So I guess I should of just told both to be safe, but when your told they are not doing it at all, and signs are posted apologizing for no car washes today, you just don't think you need to.

Oh well, tomorrow I will try to wash it and run some swirl x on my back end... Try out some new product! So I guess its a bit bitter-sweet

sry about that. Give the service guy a "serious face" so they actually pay attention to your request next time. I always take my truck to the same service manager, he already knows how anal I am with my vehicles. Heck I even buy my own synthetic oil. A

    Those car washes are horrible....

    Tough day at dealership...

Took my car in for warranty work and like always, tell them no wash... They told me it was too cold and they are not doing them today. An hour later the work was done, I come out, he says car will be right back its getting washed...

He tried to stop it, but sadly, it was washed...

My stomach sank just thinking of all the swirls... scratches... ugh...

Serviceman asked why I didn't want it washed so I told him. He apologized for it and even said "they could be rough when washing". Yeah, thanks.

It was sunny out so I was able to inspect when I got home. Luckily, not much damage but the back end is swirl city now. Will have to use my new megs products this spring I guess...

Just wanted to share my sad story Thankfully, my megs should be able to take care of it
