Just got my bill in the mail today. This is the biggest racket I've ever seen!

That is absolutely in-freaking-sane! I was in the recovery room for less than an hour! How can they justify these prices? This is the biggest racket I've ever seen in my life! And this doesn't even include the Dr fee's


So how many cars am I going to need to detail in order to pay for all this?

Psh thats nothing...when I have surgery for my birth defect (cleft palate, lift and nose) its well into the $250,000 plus range and I have had 14 surgery's.

Some is covered by insurance but not all.

Will insurance cover any of that?

Edit: Thats also why my doctor drives a Rolls Royce Phantom and a Bentley Continental GTC.

Sorry to Hear the bad news Nick and Ryan.
That is how they make money.
When I got my wisdom teeth pulled it cost $4,000, to pull out 4 teeth.
I am not saying that the amount of money you have to pay is not outrageous, but think of this, some people think it is outrageous to pay $100 or $200 for a car to be polished.

That's what you get with a private health care system. I have not had to pay one red cent for any hospital visit. My prescriptions (not that I have any) are subsidized and covered by my health insurance (private). The only major health expense in Canada is dental which is almost completely privatized, unfortunately. There has been talk about making a public dental health system but nothing has come of it yet.

I work in healthcare and the major cost driver for high healthcare costs are bad debts where people come to the hospital, get watever services are needed to get better and never pay a stinkin' cent. I'm not talking about when hospitals donate the services for a specific case (charity debt) or when an insurance company takes 6 months to pay....but people that don't pay anything.

But if the hospitals didn't charge a bilgillion dollars for a band-aid then they wouldn't have that problem - would they?

My Dad is a Pediatrician, and when I was up at camp I had an eye infection and the doctor at the camp said I should go to the ER. So For the Doctors Fee it was $400, and then for the ER fee it was $400. I ended up being diagnosed with Pink Eye but nothing helped. Then I went up North again, and got the same thing. I ended up sitting in the ER for 3 hours and the Doctor only being there for 30 minutes.

I was in the hospital for 19 days, with therapy and after care the cost was $200,000.
Insurance covered almost everything, WEW! What they actually paid was a negotiated amount, about 30% of that amount. Without insurance you end up paying thru nose.

I feel for you Nick.

My office was paying 15k/year for our "cadillac healthcare plan" and I would still have out of pocket expenses in the thousands of dollars yearly. It's a real shame.
